    Please help.
I have a simple peer to peer network of various nt, 2k, xp, 98se computers in my house that uses a subnet of 192.168.0.---
I have dsl which I port to a seperate NIC on one of my computers via dhcp that I use as my gateway...
192.168.0.1 the ip address of the sdl router is 192.168.1.1
I then use winproxy to distribute the internet across my little LAN.

My nexdoor neighbor and I want to share pictures, & files so we installed an ethernet cable between our houses.

He also uses a dsl modem but in his case it is set as a dhcp/dns server??? so it assigns all the addresses on his 3 computer LAN. The physical ip address of his dsl modem is also 192.168.1.1.
Therefore his network is assigned on 192.168.1.---
and mine is static peer-to-peer on 192.168.0.----

I want to use a linksys router to isolate but connect our
systems...our only goal is to share a folder on his or my computer without accessing anything else such as each others internet connection.

I think this is possible and I imagine should be simple but I'm stuck.

I assigned the router a fixed ip address of 192.168.0.3.
I can access the router menu but I don't know what I need to do or if it is even possible to use it so we can share a common folder on either or both our systems.

Can anyone give me some advice or tell me how to set this up?
    Thanks,

    Bruce

I do not understand your network Routing.

Adding a Router arrangement between the two of you would result in one way communication on peer to peer Networks

However one solution could be to install extra NIC in one of you computers, and an Extra NIC in one of his computers.

You configure the extra NIC on both parties to the same IP but using a different IP Band that does not conflict with either network.

You can create this way a private Network between the two of you that does not go into the main network but can share files.
