I have XP home edition on my laptop. I also now have the nasty Codec crud on my computer. I'm following the instructions as given but I have one problem. At one point the directions say "Now boot to safe mode. Open ExplorerXP navigate to and delete the following..." Okay, I went into safe mode, but have no idea of what was meant by "open ExplorerXP". How do I do that to find the files I'm supposed to delete? Thanks for the help in advance.

    Hi there imgnf...

When you say in your post: "I'm following the instructions as given" who exactly were these instructions given by? What is the source of these instructions? What I mean is that a link to the instructions would be useful here.

As for your question regarding "ExplorerXP" (as "theefool" pointed out above) the only thing I can think of off hand is that whoever gave you these "instructions" likes to use the program ExplorerXP which is a very useful freeware program that is similar to Windows Explorer; and available right here at Major Geeks.

    Good Luck!

Good point, I was assuming (bad word there), that the OP was following our insctructions.

    Good catch!

Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will get me to the end of the process okay. The original post I was referring to was from Shadow_Puter_Dude to ZassouNushi who was having the same problem I am having. Sorry I forgot to include that in the post.

If you are having malware problems you should start your own thread in the Malware forum. Not everyones problems are the same, you may have different issues as well as the same one you had that ZassouNushi had.
