Basically what I want to know if there is any way I can find out if my motherboard supports letting me power up my computer with my keyboard(or other peripheral).

According to Dell's website I have a Planar motherboard on a Dimension 4400. I'm at work right now so that's the best information I can give.

Kinda puzzled. If having problems, yes you can power up a computer with just the keyboard hooked up with no other periphials. I take it you are having problems with the computer in question.

Actually no, it's working fine. I'm thinking of buying something that says it can be used to power on compatable computers, when I emailed them and asked whats compatable they said its more of a hardware issue, it depends if your motherboard can do it, that it has to support the feature in its BIOS.

oh wait, I guess I should be asking if my BIOS can support it then?

but basically I want to know if there is a way I can just check(like going through set up or something when its booting up)

Still kinda confused. Are you talking about a Power Supply?

There we go, that's what I'm asking(again I think, I'm not very savy when it comes to hardware so forgive me) how do I check my BIOS to see if I can do that?

and in terms of jumpers I think I do have a current going out even when it's off, I have a little USB lava lamp that's on even when the computer is off

I was looking at it last night and vaguely remember seeing something about powering on(don't remember the options I had) but assuming I have this option how will it read?

remote power up or something to that affect?

    ------Them---------

If your system is running windows it's really a hardware issue. Some motherboards are able to turn on / shut down from the keyboard and some are not. It doesn't really have anything to do with the keyboard itself. The motherboard has to support the feature in the bios.

look in your bios under power options, it should ask power on by keyboard and then ask for a password to power up.
