    Hi Guys

I'm having problems with Sims 3 and not being a comp expert Im a little lost. I have a DELL Dimensions 3100. According to the dxdiag my system info says I have 2.00GB of TOTAL VIRTUAL MEMORY but a Total Physical Memory of 512.00MB of which there is 277.47MB left.

Now then, SIMS3 says it needs 1GB RAM for XP users, I have XP Proffesional.

The Problem with the SIMS3 is that it jumps and freezes and shuts down with infinate loop. I did suspect that I might not have enough memory, but also that I may not have a suitable video card.

Sims3 requires a 128MB Video Cardwith support for Pixel Shader(??) 2.0

According to my Systems info I have Adapter RAM of 128.00 MB (134,217,728 bytes). I dont even know if Im looking in the right place let alone if its right!!!

Is it simply a case of lack of memory or a deeper routed problem. If you reply, please try to keep it layman in your answer as Im really thick with computers.

    Thanks

    flynnys xx

    Hi

According to the basic spec of that Dell 3100 it did only come with 512MB of RAM, of which your info above points to (Total Physical Ram), Virtual Ram is what the operating system uses in a temp fashion and wont add uptogether with Physical ram to run that game, it needs 1GB Physical ram, however if your Video Adapter is the integrated Intel one then it too can use a portion of your Physical Ram thus reducing whats left for other applications.

Try this and choose the Sims game you have and see what areas of hardware on your PC are under the specs for the game http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/

But on looking from what you posted, its likely at least 1.5GB ram if using the integrated GFX card or 1GB if you have an addon card.

If you added nothing, your computer came with
This is not a video card. It is a video chip that is on the motherboard. You need a stand alone video card for gaming.

It also came with 256MB of RAM. This is seriously underpowered for a computer running XP.

Go to www.crucial.com and get your computer scanned or put in your make and model and see exactly what RAM the computer uses. You do not need to buy it from Crucial, nor do you need to buy it from Dell but you need to get the correct RAM. You need at least 1GB. Note: virtual memory is not real memory so that 2GB of virtual memory is of no help if you want to play games.

You will have to wait for someone who knows graphics cards to explain what type you need.
