I don't know if this is in the right forum.

Does anyone know what could cause a user to simultaneously login with the administrator of a forum? I noticed when I log on, sometimes, but not always, one of the members shows as having just logged on when I check the Members list. It only happens with this one member. Would it be possible that he is always logged on (with his status showing him as offline after one hour of no activity), and then his browser is refreshing his login status if any activity shows up in the forum? I've been trying to cause this to happen, but it's not a regular thing. Is there any browser that would do this?

Not sure I understand the issue. Could you be a little more specific? What user? What forum? Are you saying that it seems coincidental that another user is logging in whenever you do?

I have a forum with about 20 members and there's a time difference of several hours between me and one of the members. It seems an unusual coincidence, that when I log in the evening, this other user logs in at exactly the same moment I do, which is like 3 in morning his time. One such coincidence I could understand. 10 or 15 in one year starts to look odd. If I change times, his login matches mine. At a point when the Remember Me button went missing for the forum, he was very concerned about us getting it back. So I was wondering if he may be staying logged in all the time and when I log in, his login refreshes? Would that be possible? It's a bit unnerving.

I wouldn't want to speculate about that. It certainly would be very coincidental if he is always logging in when you do. Esp. considering the time difference. I can't imagine he is just sitting and waiting for you to log in.

Thanks. Someone suggested he might have a browser which can be set to automatically reload anytime it detects activity on a page. Beyond that, I'm clueless. :) shrug

I've been continuing to read about this and followed a suggestion to read about RSS feeds. Would something like this allow a member of a forum to receive an update each time there is a page change? If so, is there anyone who could explain to me how that works? There's also something called Broadcatching and an RSS that runs via one of the torrents. Can anyone give me more information about these? One last question. Is RSS feed something that would have to be offered by the website that is being watched? Or could a user put a watch on a website to detect changes?
