I have a user on my SBS 2003 that cannot save large files to a network drive. When other users are logged onto the same computer this does not happen. The computer is running 2000, the file is a large graphics file.

The fact that any other user can save the same file to the specific spot on the network points to this user. I have opened the users rights wide open to make sure it was not a rights issue and still the same problem.

The error message is "disk full [-34]" - all the tech stuff that comes up for that error msg is about mac & does not apply as any other user can save the file -- and we don't have any mac comps or software.

I tried deleting the mapped drive & remapping -- this did not work either.

I would like to avoid setting-up a new user - being a newly appointed & untrained network administrator I like fixing the old stuff that did work & not creating my own new stuff that might not.

Thank you in advance for your help. :)

This user does not have an icon like that in the system tray. I looked in the control panel & nothing like that there either. I did however check folder options - it does not help with respect to file sizes being limited.

I spose its a bit obvious, but have you checked Disk Quota settings on the server?

as in the drives size - only 16% of capacity at this time --- is that what you meant?

no, you can specifically set a quota for space usage on the drive. He asks if there are any user level drive space quota's in place that. I would say no, because he/she would get a different error message.

I'm likely to believe that that particular user does not have the proper drive mapping. I would recreate the mapped drive.

I deleted the mapping used & recreated it just to make sure that was not the issue.

and you're positive this user has rights to this network drive?

yes I even added the user to the admin group - which has all rights - just so I could rule that out

on the network server - the issue is only happening when saving large files to any network drive --- on the local machine all my users have admin rights

when you're logged in as this user.. and you open up my computer and right click/properties of the network drive.. what does the space allocation say? how much is free/used..

Can this person perform deletes and modifications on the drive?

document/text files can be changed & deleted --- it seems that graphics files cannot--- such as Quark & pdf files

Are you saving directly to the drive from the application or just copying and pasting..?

Thank you so much for your help - I just tripped on the answer, while poking around in Disk Management. The quota was set way to low.

I almost gave up - Thanks again, all you guys.

What would this untrained female do without your help! ;)

now I'm curious why it gave you that error.. if memory serves me, it should have said something like Quota Limit Reached On Drive blah blah blah.. hmmm.. if I had a nickle..lol
