    Hi everyone...

I hope someone can help a damsel in distress!

My lovely sister had installed, a while back, something on my laptop (she doesn't remember), and after that IE stopped working for me. When I tried to go to a site using IE, it just locked up so I started using Google Chrome.

The only problems with Google Chrome is that on certain sites, some text or graphics aren't visible.

I also have the invisible text problem with some e-mails I receive. I use Outlook 7 and sometimes I get e-mails where I can't read the text. I can read the text in the AutoPreview, but when I open the e-mail to read the rest of the text, I can't see any of it. It does not do that with all e-mails I receive, only some. If I Forward the e-mail and CTRL + A to select the entire contents, and select Bold, then the text appears.

So basically I have 3 problems:

    1. IE locks up, but Google Chrome works
    2. Google Chrome- Some text doesn't appear
    3. MS Outlook 7- Text in some e-mails don't appear

I ran Malwarebytes which didn't come up with anything.
    I'm on MS Vista. SP2
    2 GB RAM

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

What version of IE is on the computer. (7, 8 or 9)
I also assume that since IE doesn't work, you are not updating windows because Windows Update requires you to use IE (except in Windows 7) to install all the critical and security updates.

How can I tell if the version of IE if isn't working properly? I can open IE, but when I go to Tools- About Internet Explorer it just hangs up. Is there another way?

Open Windows Explorer and head to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
In the right pane you will see iexplore.exe Click on it and sekect properties the 2nd tab in the box that opens says version. Click omn it and the version will be shown.

    Thanks,

I went to Microsoft Online Support as suggested and tried their suggested, but didn't find any problems using it's diagnostics.

I spoke with someone else and they found that I had two instances of IE installed which were causing problems. They also Reset IE.

    That solves that problem!

    Thanks for the responses!

    Re: Situation Normal...Still Screwed Up

So, IE 8 is now working, but I'm still having other problems.

    1. Certain websites aren't showing their content. IE 8- website isn't showing content while in Google Chrome, the same website is showing more text/photo's, but some of the site isn't appearing.
    2. Outlook 7: Some e-mails have no text, but when forwarding the e-mail and selecting Ctrl + A and then selecting Bold the text appears.

    Thanks,

Probably because MS wants you to use IE when browsing its pages. I can see things in FF either. I get a message about running IE.

hellona, if the machine is screwed up, and you do not know what was installed, follow the info in the malware forum. Also, there are logs that the system keeps, that you can go through, to see what was installed, and when.

Instead of this "I can see things in FF either.", I meant to type I can not see things in FF either. :-o
