i am so confused by the w7 status bars. i have a very wide one on by default, with an icon of either a folder or a file, depending on what's highlighted. if i'm in the recycle bin, the icon is a trash can.

when it's a folder, it tells me number of items contained, but no mention of SIZE! ditto in the recycle bin. what thu...?!

(when it's a FILE, there is size and more; not a problem)

under "view", i can turn on the TRADITIONAL status bar -- thin one down the bottom -- yet STILL no mention of FOLDER SIZE! in fact, no mention of FILE SIZE either, unlike the wide bar above.

how do i A) get SIZES back into my traditional status bar, and B) lose the big fat one above it????

i've already got it set to "small", but it's still too big for me.

at present i have to highlight the contents of a given folder to find out how much is in it. ditto recycle bin.

I ran into this issue too. Having it list the size of files/folders for everything takes up an unbelievable amount time from your computer. You would see your computer greatly reduce it's speed. You will just have to go to properties and look at the file/folder size that way.

that's hard to believe. it was standard in XP, it was standard in 98, i think it was standard in 95 or 97 or w/e i had before that. and now we all have 5-50x the computing power of any of those -- if anything, it should be a lot EASIER for windows to size up folder contents nowadays.

are u sure it's not just some on/off toggle hiding somewhere? it's GOTTA be!

    :confused

It's not there, never has been in W7.

this is especially annoying in the RECYCLE BIN. in explorer, u can at least go up a level and check properties; in the recycle bin, it's "highlight and check" or nothing, right?

The recycle bin isn't a file storage area.

I use Tree Size Free, shows everything if one unhides system files and unticks show hidden files. Shows recycle bin too. Very good tool IMO.
