So, awhile back, my computer got hit pretty hard with a virus. Trend Micro couldn't fix it, so I ended up reformatting my hard drive. While attempting to install Windows XP, I got a blue screen on every attempted install. In the end, I switched out the hard drive, and it made it through. However, my computer now skips randomly. Sometimes audio will skip, sometimes video, sometimes my mouse will stop moving, but I can still interact with the keyboard. Anyone know a solution for this?

System specs:
Windows XP
Home Edition 2002
Service Pack 2

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
3.00 GhZ, 3.00 GB RAM
GeForce 8800 GT Graphics

Hi

Without being infront of this PC and running many tests, it is likely to take a short while to narrow down the cause, but first and most likely causes are:

1. You have not got all the drivers installed for the PCs hardware, most common one forgotten is the Chipset driver, so.......

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony, etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us if we need drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose All Pages > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Check Device Manager for any items with Yellow ! Marks and tell us what ones they are by?

2. What security applications do you have installed? having too many and of similar types eg. antivirus, firewalls, can conflict and slow your PC down.

Thanks for the quick response. There are no items in the device manager with a ! next to it.

The report file is too large. 252.7 kb. :-D
What would the least important part of the file be?

And I'm only running Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. I also close it when I'm playing games, which helps slightly but doesn't completely fix the problem.
