Hello, I have been using Skype recently. Since last week, all my contacts suddenly show as offline all the time which is not normal. I tried unistalling and reinstalling, nothing. From google search I've done, it seems I am not alone, but no clear solution seems available. Skype is supposed to be an improvement over MSN, but up to now, it has been mostly a pain. Any clue for you guys?

Firewall or other software could be blocking Skype from seeing contacts, Skype is having issues, or just that your contacts have placed themselves in "offline" status, even though they may be running skype in the background on their computer.

Do others see "offline" in the status of their contacts, for those that you have in your contact list?

    Hello,

I tried turning off firewall and restart, still everyone offline.

Some people confirmed me by phone they are online with online status.

    It's weird.

    Yiiikes...

Seems like m*crosoft forces users into yet another buggy product then...

    History repeats itself...

Microsoft is not forcing anything on anyone. For your information, Microsoft did not create Skype, they purchased it from the original ownership. The only thing being forced on users, is if you have MSN Messenger, now you have to use Skype/MSN Messenger.

My experience of skype has been pretty good. OK, so most (in fact nearly all)of my contacts aren't online, but enough of them are to make me beleive it's working. including Echo/sound test service

I hope the problem is solved by now (if so, perhaps you could tell us what the solution was ?)
I'm not an expert, but I do use skype from time to time.
You've tried different versions of skype, clearly. I use skype [v.4.2] (though not for a while on this system) with a USB videocam [SN9C202 ADE-1.3MP]. I have XP Home SP3 (SP3 installed later of course).

You should try if you haven't already voice to voice only between two desktop PCs, and between your PC and the mobile device, and voice only to audiovideo between two desktops, etc., in order to find where the problem is. Have you tried this ? I have never experienced restarts of the computer, though I think I've had skype restarting (?). Sometimes I have problems especially with video calls if skype is busy (has many users online); there is insufficient bandwidth somewhere.

Hello "DumbQuestion", sadly, no my problem has not been solved. Seems however I am not alone. Support people form Skype turned my case over to MSN tech support. I have been sending those guys info and they say they are working on my case. I'll keep you informed.

I have latest version of skype, 6.3.
