SKYPE for IPAD Help Please

My friend has an IPAD and she's trying to download SKYPE and set up a free account so we can communicate over SKYPE. She says that SKYPE is requesting her CREDIT CARD INFO to set up a free account???

I was under the impression that you can set up a free account without having to input any CC information. She's not exactly computer savvy so I wonder if she's overlooking something.

Are there any IPAD users here who have used SKYPE without having to enter their CC info? My friend doesn't have a credit card so this is not an option...

It's my understanding that you should be able to use SKYPE without having to do this.

Have her create an account on www.skype.com

Then when she opens Skype on the ipad choose "Sign in with a Microsoft account"

Microsoft owns Skype so if she has an Outlook.com, MSN or Live.com email she can just sign into Skype with that user name and password.

 

Thanks for the reply.... She does not have Outlook, MSN, or Live... Ipad is her only device.

If she created an account on Skype.com wouldn't she need to sign in with that information when she starts the Ipad app?

I'm just surprised that SKYPE is requesting her CC info because I am almost positive that I did not have to input this information to use SKYPE on my android tablet... In fact I just checked my SKYPE account on their website and they don't have any of my billing information saved/stored....

 

I'm not sure why it wants the CC info either. Creating the account online first is the only way I can think of to get around it.

There are two different Skype apps. Is she downloading Skype or Skype WiFi? Be sure she is choosing Skype because Skype WiFi requires Skype credits and those are not free.

Does Skype install on the iPad or is it asking for a CC before iTunes installs Skype?
Is she sure it's not iTunes asking for the CC instead of Skype?

The Skype support forum may not be much use. Many questions go unanswered.

Was she able to create an account on Skype.com? If so she can (or you can) contact Skype Customer Service as follows:

1. Sign in with your Skype Name and password.
2. Select the topic you need help with and the problem you are having. Some information is displayed that might help with your problem is displayed.
3. If the information doesn’t help, click Continue support request.
4. Select your contact method.
5. If you chose email, enter your details, describe your problem, and then click Send support request. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
