Skyrim error.

I went to start Skyrim the other day since I saw some really cool mods on YouTube for it and decided to try it and replay the game.
I open the game and I'm greeted with a window explaining:

I have since went and found the .dll file and put it in the appropriate folder, but it still comes up when I start the game. If I were to put "Okay" then it will bring up the window that has game options "Play, Options, Quit, etc" if I push "Play" that same window with the information about the .dll file will appear 8 or 9 times after pushing the "Okay" button.

Does anyone have any insight?

Have you registered the *.dll file? If not, open Command Prompt and type the following:

regsvr32 <filename>.dll

or

regsvr32 <path>\<filename>.dll

where <path> is the path to the file, and <filename> is the name of the file.

 

I've never heard of registering a .dll file. What does that do?
Upon doing that I get another windows that says:

I just googled "skyrim d3d9.dll" when I went to look for it.

 

You can't just add a *.dll file to a folder because it's a system file. Here's more info from Microsoft.

Also, which version of Windows are you using? You might need to download and install DirectX June 2010 which is a little known update for Windows XP, Vista & 7. Apparently it also works for Windows 8 but I can't vouch for that.

I'll give them a read after I get back from church today and try your suggestions.

Out of my experiences you shouldn't play around with single dll files that belong to a particular version of a software (especially if you don't know to what version the library belongs to).
Nevermind. Your issue is well known in the gamers community and seems to be caused by an obsolete version of 'NVIDIA GeForce Experience'.
In case you don't have it up to date try to uninstall it if you don't need it or upgrade to the latest version.

 

I completely forgot that there was an update for my NVIDIA Experience a little while back... Oops.:-o. Ran the update and it works now, thank you both.
