ok my computer set-up is in my signature the only thing not included is my slave drive that i have hooked up. it is an internal 30 Gig drive that i've been using for basic media mp3s and the such for about two years now. its a western digital, and for the past few weeks i've been having trouble keeping my computer up and running if it is hooked up. it makes this whirring and then this clicking noise over and over. do you all think it is dead? and if it is, is going to be possible to retrieve all of the data off of it?

If there is data you need from it, try getting it off as soon as you can. If you can't use Windows without the system locking up, then there isn't much you can do.
Sounds like the drive is defective to me.

that's what i was thinking, but moving 30 gigs of data would probably not work out.

i was wondering if there was some type of program that would be able to access it or something.becuase i'm otherwise going to be depressed out this very much.

Hi, read this thread in its entirety maybe it will help. If the drive clicking its ready to fail but you may get some data off of it.

i used runtimes getdataback when i messed up the file system in my HDD awhile back but im not sure it will work for you since yours is a physically broken HDD, but you never know ... also they have a free version where you can see if it will recover your files and then pay for the liscence if it does work

ontrack easyrecovery may do the trick for you ... again DL the free version to see if it will recover your data ... ive never used this so I cannot tell you how good it is
