i am running xp pro on a pentium 4 2.8ghz. I installed 2GB of RAM about 2 weeks ago to take the machine to 4GB in total, which only shows 3.48GB.

I have noticed that when the computer goes into sleep mode it stays there. When I come in at the end of the day the green light is on on the base, but it doesn't wake up. I have to power down and restart the computer.

The sleep mode worked fine until I installed the extra RAM.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Remove your new ram to see if the problem evaporates, remove your old ram and leave just the new ram for the same reason, check the amount of ram you have in both instances, check at bios,if it flashes past too fast hit del enter your bios and disable

With this disabled make sure it checks all your ram with, old mem,new mem and both, check your memory again in all three instances by hitting control alt del, check the performance tab and post your physical memory total in all three instances.

Sometimes different brands of memory don't like working together, sometimes you can resolve it through bios settings and timings, sometimes not, sometimes you just get a bad stick.

Run this program, again, with just your old mem, just the new and with both.

XP pro won't show all 4gigs this is normal without upgrading to a 64bit OS,there are certain workarounds but this doesn't explain your sleep mode problem, check your ram anyway to rule it out.

    Thanks for your help Rikky.

I am sorry but I am not familiar with the first part of your message. Could you put it more in layman's terms for me, please?

    This part:

"...check at bios,if it flashes past too fast hit del enter your bios and disable

    Quote:
    fast memory check "

    Thanks again.

Sometimes there can be issues with the computer coming out of sleep/hibernate mode. In my opinion I would just disable both of them. You can always just turn your monitor off or use a screen saver instead.

If I am not mistaken (probably am) the sleep and hibernate mode both suspend to ram or hard disk. Perhaps there is a caching issue or page files "dregs" interferring. Not sure if fast user switching, if enabled effects this, again probably not.

One could try clearing out temp files, and retrying.

There is a group policy option to clear page file at shut down this may or may not help just putting some ideas out there...

The other option is to recheck the option which says when i press the power button on my p.c what does the p.c do
    Xp says something like
    Go to stand by
    shut down
    ask me what to do

Have a peek in there - google it for the method for your operating system.

A little system maintenance might do it but I am thinking a miss match or possible faulty ram stick.
