Why don't we first just wait until the OP tries to go into:
Settings > System > Power & Sleep > SLEEP and see if they can set it correctly there and, if it is not a laptop/netbook, then set the time in the 'plugged in' section, let them test it, and only then if it wont work look further.
On the face of it this doesn't appear to be a 'driver' issue at all. It is a system issue whether sleep settings hold or not.

your answer is what i want but i press system, power&sleep all i get is "title" screen with "when plugged in turn off after" and underneath "related settings" which brings up a box which has choices one of which is "sleep" and all there is to see is "hibernation".the theme i saw in your reply i cannot find under "power & sleep" but i had it before?

If you get this screen, you should be able to set 'Sleep' when plugged in to a certain time:

my screen does not have "sleep" on it so i cannot set a time.

MaxTurner i am sorry , but in many cases this situation is about graphic card driver , because of that i would like to know his/her machine's specs , even i was unable to see your answer because we answered at the same time ;)

That's great. I now see the logic of that. But I think a graphic driver problem would show itself in many other ways. But hopefully, if an sfc scan doesn't resolve it, the OP can do a driver update check.
