Hello, by no means is this a serious problem but its one minor enough, that I hope it can be sorted by a tick or untick.

For example, say I have one internet browser open (mozilla firefox) and I am typing this thread out. I get down to finishing the thread and before I hit 'submit new thread', someone in MSN Messenger sends me a link to Google (for example)....when I click this link in MSN Messenger, it jumps to my forum page and takes over it. (Wipes the post and leaves MajorGeeks for Google)

What way do I want to change it? Well, when I click on a URL in MSN Messenger or anywhere else, I want it to open a brand new browser page for that particular URL, as opposed to taking over my existing pages.

Is there a way around this? Thanks for any help.

Usually it's just right click and select open in new window. The setting you're asking for is actually an MSN setting though. It's not the browsers setting. Tons of programs act in this way, and to solve it you have to adjust the program which is taking over the window.

I don't think MSN actually supports making a single click open in a new window. You'll just have to right click.

    Cheers for your help.

Two things the matter with what you've said though. You can't right click a link on Messenger, it only views it as text and gives the following options:

'Copy / Select All / Search'

Copy and search are greyed out.

Also, I had this setting the way I wanted to have it (as explained in the original post) but since was forced to format my computer and it's never been the same again.

As I said, it's not a big problem, but I've lost more forum posts because of it. More annoying than anything else really.

There is nowhere in Messenger you can alter this setting, so you would assume it's a browser setting?

In Internet Explorer, in Tools, Internet Options, then Advanced tab, and under Browsing, make sure you don't have "Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts" checked.

If that fails, have you tried, or can you, holding down the shift key while you click to force it to open a new browser page?

My concern would be a possible "Phish" attempt in MSN messenger by getting a person to click on a link, just to load Malware onto a machine.

Yes, that could be a concern, but I fail to see the relevance to this post's topic?
