I'm preparing to create an updated install CD for myself. I have an XP Pro SP2 disc. I want to slipstream SP3 into it. I've slipstreamed before when SP2 came out so I know what's expected, and, no, I will not be trying to slipstream SP3 into a disc that had SP2 slipped into it. I will be using a 'factory' XP Pro SP2 disc for the source files. Anyway, here at MajorGeeks there are 2 separate SP3 downloads. There's an ISO at 544mb:

and a network installation pack at 316mb:

So, which one should I use for the slipstream project? Probably the 316mb download, right? And what's the difference between the two?

    Thanks!

Yes, all you need is the 316mb file, the difference is in the installation. The full 544mb file is multilanguage and has all kinds of extras for different installations (keyboards and other multi language stuff) but the basic critical updates (which is what this is all about anyway) is all you need.

Although when you extract the 316mb exe file you get an i386 file and it might actually be easier to just use ultraiso to extract the i386 from the iso. I extracted mine from the 316mb file thru the commandline and its properties say (size:398mb--size on disk:405mb). why don't you extract yours from the iso so we can compair the sizes. I bet there identical. To be precise the bytes behind the siz:398mb are (417,341,476 bytes).
