My Presario 6370us takes 24+ min to boot. It is 1gb ram at 2.53ghz intel pentium 4 with50% 120gb disk free. I run the win firewall, defender and Norton antivirus.
I think the problem started when boot halted in safe mode and suggested chkdsk repair which allowed boot to go ok.
The times just got longer. The boot log(1.2mb) shows ca 100+ did not load drivers, the same block of drivers. The winupdate file shows repeated attempt toupdate when no updates are available over the 24+min boot.
Several other logs show repeated load attempts such as comsetup, faxsetup, imsins, msgscom, ntdtcsetup, ocgen, ocmsm, dtc setup, msmsgs evn though I don't have fax,msm installed.
I run registry mechanic with no errors but the trial Regcure shows 1200.
I ran the cpqdiagnostics with no help. I tried removing startups from the msconfig and can't find the problem.

Can someone help solve this problem? everthing runs fine once booted.

How long does the system take to boot into Safe Mode?
Try cleaning up files with CCleaner and Ad-Aware when finally booted. Clear out your temporary files (via Internet Explorer - Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files. Try deleting the Cookies too.
Another option is to try a System Restore. How long have you experienced this problem? If you can restore to an earlier date that this problem arrised then this may help also.

Safe mode took ca 2 min
Problem has been a month or two.
If problem is a bad file, then sys restore wouldn't help.
I'll try the deletion of cookies and temps.
I'll run ad aware but nrtonav 2007 and win defender should block those problems.

Ran spy sweeper and eliminated 6 software and 2019 traces- mostly wild tanget
    I'll try other post references.
But now it still boots in 23+min. can the problem be with the boot.ini ntoskrnl ?

Could be the problem but I don't reckon so. Did you give System Restore a go?
