Slow Computer

I going over a friends tonight to help fix his computer. All I know at this point is that he says its slow. Other than the usual startup items and msconfig, is there any other software anyone recommends to make my job easier tonight?

Be sure to defrag, remove junk files, and perform a FULL virus/spyware/malware scan. For more antivirus info, go to the malware removal forum and read the stickies.... all the other stuff (defrag, etc) should be covered in the links provided by 'evilfantasy'.... good luck!
