    Hi,
Completly new to major geeks. I've been told this is the best site. My computer is slower than it should be. I have carried out full maintainence, Crap Cleaner, Ad-Aware, Spybot, RegSeeker, Virus Scan, Scan Disk, and Defragmeter. Nothing found. Windows updated also. My Virus Scan needs to be renewed which I will do next week. Could this be the cause of slowing down my computer. My "start up" has 22 to 23 objects. I intend to check out those next week.
Specs: Windows Me, RAM 512. Norton Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, No other problems with computer, just slower than usual. Did not download any new programes. No problems in Device Manager. Would be very glad of your help.

    Thank you

Are you entirely sure it's slower than normal?? Haha, well anyways as far as I've been told norton ups its memory requirement when subscription runs out. Try uninstalling norton and switching to something like AVG, its much faster anyways. And welcome to majorgeeks.

Good move Norton is very resource hungary product at the best of times and not really that effective.

You may also want to consider following these instructions to tweak your system for performance, and lower resource consumption. MOST of this is applicable to your OS.

It's pretty easy! At the bottom of every major geeks page is a link that says Majorgeeks.com Home Page, and there, you can use the search field to find just about any file on MG.

This is especially easy if you know the hotkeys in Mozilla Firefox

While we're on the topic of avg, can i run it for my profile only on a shared computer?

Do you mean with other antivirus apps for the other users? If so, I would not be the one to recommend running more than 1 full-blown AV on a system.

Of course it is possible to have more than one installed on your system. Is it a good idea? NO WAY JOSE!

If you wanted AVG for just your own profile, I think we may be able to swing that. However, you would be leaving everyone else high and dry.
