    Hi everybody!
    :)

I am currently facing a problem with my laptop and hoping to find some solution in this forum (as I always depend on this forum for solving any vexing pc problems I face).

My dell laptop is taking quite a long time to open any program or file after a double click. Many a times, double-click only selects and needs repeated double-clicks before opening a program or I have to right click and select "open" option.

I am running AVG free personal antivirus and 3 antispywares (spybot, a2, lavasoft adware). Scanning with antivirus or antispyware doesn't report any infection. I have cleared my drives with xp's drive cleaner. I have a 60 GB hard disk and currently have only 6GB left unused and with 512MB RAM and virtual memory of 1GB.

I tried to solve this problem by going through control pannel --> printers and other hardwares --> mouse --> default button and double speed, but in vain.

Kindly suggest me a solution to get back my original quick double click!

Thanking u all in advance for giving ur valuable time to read this and providing a quick solution as usual.

    Sincerely,

    :)

And you've defragged the drive, right?

One of two simple problems come to mind: that, or that your computer's getting hot. Some laptops aren't designed very well, and my girlfriend's dell laptop has shut down several times due to heat buildup (due to poor ventilation design). Maybe someone else will come through and get the right answer to this, but I hope this helps.

The "Head" room on your Hd is getting fairly low, suggest that some "Housecleaning" might be required to gain some HD space. Also check and see what applications are "Running" CCleaner available here at Major Geeks will get rid of some "Garbage". As Jagdpanzer stated every summer we here the same story about "Laptops Overheating", suggest an after market fan that you can place your laptop on during the Lazy Hazy HOT summer days NewEgg comes to mind as a source. Hope that helps

    Hi Jagdpanzer!

    :)

Thanks for ur suggestion! I just spent last three hours to defragment my drive but, unfortunately, my problem still persists.

The second thing that u suggested might be a contributing factor. I have noted that my hard-disk temp usually hovers around 50-54 degree celcius within an hour of use despite being run in an air-conditioned room. I am using SPEEDFAN for last few months (only to know temp, as I am not aware how to use it efficiently) which always shows flames with HDD/CPU/temp4 temps. Can anyone there guide me how much temp is really harmful for my laptop and how to use speedfan efficiently?

Can there be any other solution to slow double clicks?

Thanking u again and await a reply too.

    Sincerely,

    :)

    Hi BCGray!

    :)

Just noted ur reply. I agree that a lot of housecleaning is needed to free more space, and I am going for it with Ccleaner. Will let u know if it makes any diff.

    Thanks!
