Though it is an outstanding browser, I am having some difficulty with the download times in Firefox. I am only on a dial-up connection and I understand that is the majority of the problem, but I would like to think that someone out there has thought of us poor lost souls and created a download program to make the process somewhat faster. Anyone know of such a puppy?

What speed are you downloading at and what is your connection?

Dialup can only go so fast, and no download manager can make it faster than it's maximum throughput.

EG for a 56 kbps connection, the maximum you can download is about 7 KB/s. That is rarely attained, and average is about 3-4.5.

You can speed things up somewhat, and gain the ability to resume downloads across sessions (meaning you don't have to start over even if you have a crash in the middle of a download) with an external download manager. I use Free Download Manager myself. I recommend using the FlashGot extension to integrate it with the browser, this adds functions and gives you more control.

You won't see anything above 7kbps with a 56k modem. Your browser will have no effect on that speed.

Thanks all. I figured that I was stuck with the slow speed until I upgrade to DSL or cable modem. I appreciate the answers. :)
