Slow internet connection

I've been suffering from a slow internet connect for the last 3-4 days I have Vista Home (Crappy OS) and the only programs I've installed within that time period is firefox (installed yesterday), the gimp (needed a better picture editor), yahoo messenger, and windows live messenger. Now at first I thought it was malware however after much time and effort (slow downloads) I updated and scanned with spyware, avast, and ad aware and found absolutly nothing. Now I'm wondering could it be a rootkit that I'm not seeing? Also my OS itself operates just fine with no slow down on the local machine.

 

I forgot to add this problem occurs in safe mode as well despite fewer drivers being loaded.

how did u solve the problem might because i'm having this problem to on my windows vista ulimate os
