    Hello, new to this forum. Found it out of frustration with slow internet explorer. Runiing IE7, Running a emachines PC, 2.17GHZ processor, 2 GB ram. IE is very slow. Had comcast tech check lines and found them to be clear. I had doubleclick on the comuter but that was removed with spybot. I use Norton Internet security as my only AV. We have had viruses and a trojan in the past but those were removed by Norton. I am at my wits end with the slow loading, slow response of IE approx a minute to load. Email is also slow. I ran the tests described in malware removal. Here are the attached results:

    1. MBR check found an unknown MBR code.

    2. Super anti spyware log:

    6.MG tools I could not get to run.

    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Please read this:
    How to attach items to your post or view How to Attach Items: the Video.

    Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.
    cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
    GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

    Please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:

    * Is boot up slow?
    * Is shutdown slow?
    * Is browsing/surfing slow?
    * Is downloading slow?
    * Is running any application?
    * Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    * Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    * Anything else slow?

    Please attach the MBRCheck log.

    Sorry for the limited initial details. I am not a computer guy. Internet explorer is slow to load and start. I still get Google.ad.doubleclick stuff in my history. Browsing is slow and I must be getting hidden redirects because I hear multiple clicks sometimes when I change sites. It is not slow in safe mode. In taskmngr there are two iexplore.exe processes running:

    iexplore.exe 113,440K
    iexplore.exe 15,152K

    the 113k number is the only large value, all the rest are 5 digits.

    Reboot is slow but I attributed that to Norton - I know it's a resource hog. Shut down is not slow but I rarely shut the computer down.

    I would assume this has something to do with doubleclick? Norton runs all the time and my primary AV. I have used spybot, adaware and malwarebytes to doublecheck but those programs do not run. I attached the two things you requested.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Your MBRCheck log indicates an unknown MBR. Do you have your XP cd? We will need to go into the recovery console and run:
    fixmbr command.

    What happened when you tried to run the three files from MGTools? Did they run? Did you get error messages?

    When I tried to run MGT tools the command prompt window briefly flashed on the screen and then nothing. I thought it was running in the background but after waiting a while....nothing.

    Look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it anyway.

    I was able to run MGTools after restarting my computer. Previously when I opened the command prompt window I wasn't getting the C:>. Here are the results.

    I am not finding any malware in your logs. Do you have your XP cd?

    yes I do. I looked at but did not use fixmbr command under recovery console information. Is this what you think may be the problem? Are the dire warnings of repartioning my hard drive and data loss going to occur?

    I can't say for certain that it is the cause of your problems, but you can be pretty well assured that doing the fixmbr command will not harm your system. :major
