two quick things; internet explorer all of a sudden runs slow, sometimes not opening web pages. I ran the help and support on windows, i ran ccleaner, microsoft anti-spyware, norton, spysweeper, ad-adware, and came up with the usual random stuff. still slow. Any thoughts? My online games still work pretty well, which raised the question of a software problem.

second thing; i can't open more than one browser at once now.

    sorry to waste your time.

Not a waste of anyones time .... did this just start happening ...have you installed something recently? Have you run and online scan:
    Panda online active scan
    http://www.activescan.com

Norton is a hog and not always very effective.....with that said ...run the scan and save the results ...post back:)

Hi Ray... and since this is your first post "Welcome to MajorGeeks!" ;)

The fact that you "cannot open more than one browser at once" suggests that your computer is possibly missing and/or has corrupt Registry entries; which are necessary for using a browser while running Windows OS. Try re-registering each of the following files in order to correct any possible missing\corrupt Registry entries:

Click Start => Run (type each line below separately, then press the OK button)

    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Finally, Be SURE to Reboot and then test opening more than one browser at once.

Important Notes: Do not forget the "space" between regsvr32 and the .dll entries. Also, you should see a brief message after each entry is fixed/not fixed - this message will verify that these entries have been (or have not been) correctly re-registered. This is important just in case you type in the incorrect letters or forget the period - before the letters dll - which is a common error when trying to do this fix. You should Copy & Paste all of the above .dll names in my post here onto Word or Notepad, in order to avoid these types of spelling errors. ;)

Additionally, if the above registry fix does not work; since you already took all of the steps which you listed and found nothing significant; you should take Tim's advice and check out any of the free online scanners out there. My current favorite is BitDefender FREE online scan. I like this one because if the scanner cannot disable (or heal) the infections; it will automatically "delete" the offender.

The only "downside" to these types of free online scanners available is that they can take anywhere form an hour to two hours to complete; and even more time than that, especially if you have large or multiple hard drives. However, the time it takes will be well spent if it solves your problem.

Finally, before I let you go, try this as well: In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab. Scroll down to "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" and uncheck it, click OK. See if that solves the problem.

    Good Luck!
