    Hi

Kestrel13 kindly helped remove some malware, thread here - http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1770319

From recent scan since his help the PC seems clean, however the performance does appear worse and has suggested I seek help here.

When i boot PC up, takes 10-15 mins before it really wants to do anything, loading progs in that time slows things and generally causes problems with no responding progs.

Once loaded there are things that are noticeable, sound does not sound correct (slow and slurred), when you type sometimes this does result in letters going on to the screen.

I worry i have deleted something i need, when i was cleaning malware as i did remove a number of spuriously named folders and files. Some i was unsure about i did leave at subsequently kestrel13 asked me to deal with. So it maybe more a fear than a reality.

    Would really appreciate your help

I can see from your other topic that you have Windows XP and use CCleaner.

Can you check CCleaner | Tools | Startup - if you have many unnecessary startup items active? You can save the result as a text file and attach it here at the forum.

That is a surprisingly short startup list; definitely not the cause for your startup problem.

How long, from when you turn on the computer, does it take until you see your desktop? Then how long until you can actually use the computer (and the HD light stops flickering?)

Once the desktop is visible, can you run the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), and observe the processes tab - what is using heavy CPU and I/O? (You may need to add the I/O columns from the View menu.)

    Hi

To see the desktop is only a few minutes.

Not sure what the HD light is.

Task manager the main CPU usage is system idle
Csrss.exe and lsass.exe are recording the highest number of I/O reads and writes.

    Some other observations

-When i load up sometimes the keyboard wont work, and need to take usb connection out and plug back in. It then works fine but typing to screen input is slow.
-Similar happens with the mouse, as in the cursor does not move at the speed it should
    - The sound is delayed broken and muffled, ie mp3, load up sounds, outlook messages delivered etc
    - When shut down, there is a end process of NET broadcast event, which am not sure what it refers to.
    - when it shuts down the windows noise is correct and heard as it should be.
    - i have seen WPFFontCache_v0400.exe using alot of resources but not this time.

Even after rebooting PC and reading typing this, 26mins later PC is still seems to be working hard.

Just rebooted again, took 5 mins before saw desktop and 2 more mins before task manager launched.

    Csrss.exe high I/O reads - 14k and rising
    lsass.exe about 7k I/O reads and writes.

    Hopes this helps

    Thanks
