Slow Loading Of Large Files WinXP

If you have a large amount of files in a folder and your hard drive just runs and runs when you go into that directory then this tip is for you. It drove me crazy until i saw this --->

open regedit, and find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D9
4-71B3-4b9a-9489- 5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32

now just delete it.

 

I'm not finding thsi documented anywhere.

What are the side effects, and what is the key for?

 

Believe the "large files" should be replaced with "avi files", and the problem is described in this article:

The registry thing should stop explorer from trying to preview avi-files. Though there are also other ways.

The problem should be solved with SP2, hence most people feel that explorer.exe seems to work faster, thus making the registry thing unneeded.

 

Interesting. I did indeed get mostly video related issues when I looked it up on google.

So is it merely removing thumbnail view of the media files?

 

Along with media properties like video and audio codec, bitrate and length.

 

I have done this and had no side effects observed..And SP2 doesnt fix this prob because i have it....Sure there is most likely other ways to achieve the same results but this was easy and it worked ...

 

If you do it like i said you will still have thumbnail view of media files
