I have a Dell Inspiron zino HD desktop computer. My computer started running extremely slow so I downloaded and purchased SpeedyPC Pro online. It scanned my computer and found over 10,000 resgistry errors. I called the hotline to register my account and the tech ran a diagnostics on my pc and said that the event log had over 28,000 events and over 52,000 errors!! He said I could take it to somewhere like staples and get it fixed for like $300 or have them do it for $200. If it's not that extreme, I would like to try and fix it myself if I had the proper instructions. Also, after the SpeedyPC Pro scanned and fixed my issues the computer did start running a bit faster. But it destroyed my Microsoft Word program to where I can't open or run it. I run a scan and clean on the computer everyday with the SpeedyPC Pro so that it won't get any worse until I can get the errors fixed.

I have the inspiron zino HD 400. I have windows 7 installed. The tech I talked to from SpeedyPC Pro also said that the errors were coming from outdated drivers. He also said that my computer was working at maximum from all the errors on it before I cleaned the registry. I keep everything up-to-date with windows downloads. It all started a little over a year ago when my sound went out on my computer. It said that I did not have audio installed on my computer. I had someone look at it and they tried to reinstall the driver for my audio and it wouldn't let them. Then they said the only way to get sound would be to click f8 when starting and disabling driver. It works like that but now my whole computer is screwed up and everyday when I scan with my registry cleaner it finds new things. Today there were almost 200 new errors that it fixed.

I have been down this road before with Office from an incident with a cleaner, so I think rolleyes I am a little bit familiar with the problem it sounds like you are having.

Just a few questions. What (if anything) is your normal day to day registry cleaner (I mean other than SpeedyPC)? Also, could you detail a little bit how you use the PC (what purposes...i.e. using MS Office Word, browsing the net, etc.)? What is the OS on the PC and the service pack number also?

If you have MS Office 2003 or 2007 or 2010 (newer?) I think you have a repair feature which may help with some of your Office problems. The repair feature can be found in the add/remove programs area of your OS. Right click on MS Office and then select "Change". Then select "Repair". This is for Windows XP, so I'm not sure for Vista or 7.

Especially if you have downloaded the updates for MS Office, some of the features are activex controls, and these can be wiped out with rampant registry swipes. The key here is to get the controls back on the PC. For Office, the Repair option might fix the problem. Some notable things that can also be affected are things like Flash player and possibly some browser add ons if you have any of those. There are some other programs that can be affected too, so if you have trouble, you can reinstall those, and that should restore functionality in most cases.

I have windows 7. I use computer for our business, checking email, and Microsoft office 2003. Have tried repairing and it says I have to insert disc for office. But I can't find my disc. My biggest problem is wanting to get the event errors fixed and drivers updated.

I really wish I had done a bit more research before purchasing SpeedyPC Pro.

Any chance you could find a copy of Office 2003? There's always ebay if that turns out to be your best option. I have made hundreds of purchases on ebay without any incidents so far.

Well, it's not wrong to want a tidy and clean PC that's for sure. Maybe SpeedyPCPro would be willing to help you with a copy of MS Office 2003 with a working key. I notice a representative (apparently) replied to this thread. Might be worth contacting the company. If you do, you can mention the post here and perhaps read it to them.

If you can get Office back, maybe it would be easier then to focus on the performance troubles you have been having. However, if you would like to go ahead with that, it would help to know the following:

    Processor brand/type
Main hard drive size and free space
    Amount of RAM memory

If you have CCleaner, you can use it to check and see what you have set to run on startup. A list of programs listed in the Tools->Startup tab would help to see. If you don't have CCleaner, I recommend downloading and installing it. If you do, click on the "Registry" tab and then deselect all of those entries you see there. Cleaning the registry is really not even necessary...instead just some good maintenance. If you would like to know more about the features of CCleaner, please ask.

Looks like this was a driver problem.

I think this would be a good idea for you to run if you have a Windows 7 installation disk of the same type as what you have on the PC:

Have heard only good stories about this:

There is a portable version that you don't have to install. Just unzip the folder to a folder and run the program from inside the folder:

Take a look at the description of the program. I have run across many situations where this program fixed numerous errors. Not sure what it will do for your Office problem, but I would try it...
