    Hey all.

Was referred here by the Malware section, as they indicate they see none on my system.

Getting very sluggish performance and was curious what I could do to improve that!

    Thank you for your help!

    HafDawg...

I think you have an amd athlon 64 2600+ processor. If this is so, the Passmark benchmark is 374 on your processor. The typical new PC today will get you a processor in the 5000+ Passmark range for like $400, and you'll get 8 GB RAM to boot and better graphics too. I would say we're at the point where these kinds of specs are basically almost required to have a satisfactory experience with a PC. This is just based on my experiences.

Black Friday is almost here, so maybe (if the above is your processor) you could take a look around and find a deal...or even better a steal :cool

Just be sure to save any os discs and your harddrive in you want to rollback from Win8.1 that's going to be on any machine readily available!

Generally true. I did find this from HP for $449 (including postage) with Win 7 Pro which looks pretty good:

    http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stor...esktops/hp-pavilion-500-desktop-f9a61av-aba-1

Then again this below has 2 more GB RAM (8 total) and is $50 cheaper. It's win 8.1 though. Processor for both is the same and Passmark's right at 5000 (4984):

Graphics would probably be a good bit better than you are used to on the current system with either, even though they are standard motherboard variety. It actually takes a fairly decent PCIe graphics card to beat the specs of this motherboard graphics-wise. And not to forget you get a warranty... :)

Here is a list of all the deals from HP (I got them in an e-mail because I have an HP from awhile back):

According to the compnents list for the Dell Service Tag number, it came with an Intel I3-2350M @ 2.3 GHz.

I didn't even see the tag number there :-o. Was working from the processor info and did a little detective work on Google.

Well, went back and did a quick check at Dell, and what I found said a Dell Zino with an AMD Athlon 64 2650e. 2650e is a slightly better processor than the 2600+. 2650e passmarks at 422 compared to the 378 of the 2600+ one I mentioned in the previous post.

Looks like the benchmark is 422 compared to the 378 I referenced before. In any case, the processor for sure has very limited capacity compared to later core 2, quad core, and i series processors.

I was going from the specs in the picture, mdonah. Is it possible that you found a different machine somehow?

    :confused

    OK thanks MattMailer.

That matches what I found at the Dell site. Anyway, I think you must have typed in a different tag than I, mdonah. Actually, I had a hard time reading the pic, so felt like I got lucky to find anything. The 2650e Zino specs are the right ones and the ones listed at Dell, however...

The Dell site shows that the PC sold in 2009. I guess that had to be one of the last standard single core processors ever sold. Heck, by that time, quad core PCs had already replaced dual core and core 2 duo PCs. All of those are 4 or 5 times (even 10 times) more powerful than the Athlon 64.

i series processors have changed computing so much. The net is actually fun with HD video and all. Office runs so good on an i series processor. That alone makes them worth the money in my opinion.

It's crazy what's out there for the money these days. Wish I had some time to really look around for black Friday deals. I bet there are some crazy deals on i series PCs, right now...

remember if buying the lower end half hieght towers that you get a strong computer but almost no expansion capability. I have two. Came with only two sata ports already used by hd/dvd, no ide, no card slots, 1 extra ram slot can provide memory expansion as advertised. But ready to go right out of the box.

From the Pic, both the Service Tag number and Chassis Serial Number are CW0ZRL1. When I entered that at the Dell Support site, this is what shows.

    mdonah...

Kind of strange. When I enter the exact same number, here is the page I get:

    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/CW0ZRL1/diagnose

I feel like this must be it, because the processor and other specs match here in the pic and in the info on the malware board. I have no idea why you would have gotten the result you got with the same number, much less twice... :confused

    @AtlBo,

    That IS strange. :confused

I'll try IE and see if I get the page you and MattMailer get. I was running FF 33.1.1.

Even stranger is the fact that it pulls up the Inspiron laptop in IE as well. :confused:confused

I even tried again using copy/paste of what you typed in post 13.

Post 13 :eek? I'm not saying anything...like it's Friday. Luckily it's black Friday and not Friday the 13, or I might be worried.

I got no explanation for what's going on there mdonah. I didn't think it was anything but maybe a typo, but now I think you must be feeling like you have to get to the bottom of whatever is happening. I wouldn't be sure where to start with that one...:confused :-o

    I guess here at MGs
