Slow running pc

Been recommended by a friend to use your website, so here i am.

I'm only just learning about computers, so please can you put any replies into simple terms for me, ta!

My computer is running really slow. I've removed the spyware with a spyware removal tool (I can't remember who they were tho). I've cleaned all the Temporary files etc. I want to clean my registry but am unsure how to do this. Have been to numerous websites offering free downloads, but finding only the scans are free. The scans all show there are problems.

Can someone please direct me to a reputable registry cleaner (preferably free). Also, do you recommend me trying an alternate spyware site to double check there is no more spyware on here.

I am currently running AVG (8.0) freeversion and using Windows Firewall. Have been told AVG does not always find the problem and I may need to run other stuff to fix this problem.

I would suggest doing any cleaning BUT the registry. Most cleaners remove things that don't need to be and can cause all types of problems. Even if you know what you are doing, it can be easy to mess your machine up.

Thanks for the welcome! Have actually fixed the problem using Read And Run Me First. Took me nearly 12 hours but got there in the end. Many thanks for that. You gadgees know your stuff, now running much, much better. Thanks for the tip on registry cleaning, won't bother now. Am currently working through Basic Computer Maintenance.
