I am getting a very slow start up. I uninstalled all McAfee products and installed Avast! home edition , Online Armor - fire wall , comodo BOClean, and Spybot search and destroy (which takes about two hours to scan and made me do a scan on boot up - hope that doesn't happen every time I turn on the computer ) I have already run CCleaner and it still takes a very long time. Any ideas or advise on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Yes, as Kes said, you should use the McAfee removal tool http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html

Another thing that could be slowing your computer down is if you have TeaTimer enabled in Spybot. If you aren't sure, open Spybot > Click on Mode up top and select Advanced > Go into Tools > Resident > Make sure the Teatimer active box isn't checked.

I think if it takes Spybot 2 hours to scan, you may have some programs and files you don't need. I would uninstall anything you don't use. As far as disabling startup programs in msconfig, this site www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php will give you details on any programs, so you know if they're safe to uncheck.

Well please enlighten me. I wasn't aware of any risks with that.
