    Hi,

It's after midnight and I wanna go to bed but I'll post this and by the time I get up in the morning it will be midday or later Thursday in the USA so I should have some answers I hope.

My problem is that I installed some software and now there is a major delay in the middle of loading Windows 98SE. I have uninstalled it since. I have run Regedit and Regclean as well.

I have single stepped through my Config, sys and that is OK. I have single stepped through my autoexec.bat and that is OK. I then come to WIN and it asks whether I want to load all Windows drivers. I answer OK and step through them one at a time. I get through to msmouse.vxd and that is OK. Next one is brmemory.vxd. Whether I answer yes or no doesn't matter as there is then a major delay until my laptop eventually boot up.

How can I tell what is happening in the middle of booting up as nothing appears after brmemory.vxd except intermittent hard drive access until it finally boots.

Hard drive is OK and not fragmented.

Win 98SE, 288mb ram, 30gig hard drive partitioned but plenty of space. Gateway Solo 9300.

I have tried booting without config.sys, autoexec.bat and brmemory in all combinations and it makes no difference to the delay in the middle of loading Windows.

I'm assuming you have a Brother printer...

Try uninstalling the printer driver, reboot then reinstall it.

alanc, you are unbelievable !!!. How the hell did you know I have a Brother printer connected?
It is a Brother MFC9100C Multi Function printer !!!!!

I will unload and reload printer driver immediately but would really like to know how you figured that out. Why does Windows stumble over this. Nothing I did should have interfered with the driver (I think) and my PC was great until I installed a couple of new programs.

I am still gobsmacked by your reply.

    Thanks a million,

    Baz

As Homer Simpson would say, doooh. I finally twigged.br=brother, ah well oldtimers has struck again. I deleted all printers, reloaded Win98 and fixed up all the things that a re-install stuffs up. One good thing, I got back my Accessories folder that somehow I partially stuffed up ages ago. Thanks all, for the help.
