Slow user switching -- XP

Hi all, Long time lurker.....first time poster....

So basically, I want to know why it takes so long to switch between users in XP especially after the screen saver has kicked out and the monitor has gone into sleep mode. Twitching the mouse brings the monitor back on line but after you select an account icon the screen turns black and it takes about 15 to 20 seconds before it decides to display the selected users screen. Is this a software thing or a hardware thing? Does my monitor suck or my vid card? It is really annoying...Can I tweak any settings in XP to stop this? I have already tried to stop the monotor from going to sleep but that soesn't seem to be possible...and I have tried to shut down the power saving options too...

After reading the descriptions of both boxes (Fast User Switch and Welcome screen) I fail to see how turning these off would be an advantage. I would then be prompted to have to enter usernames/passwords as well as shut down programs before moving between users.

Could it have anything to do with the refresh rate of my monitor? I just don't know...

 

i think he meant that you need to CHECK in both boxes under "Change the way users log/on off"
