Slow Windows Vista LAN Transfer Speeds

Happy Christmas Eve to everybody.

I am trying to transfer files between two Vista machines on a wireless network. For some reason the file transfer speed is extremely slow.

I've tried with multiple machines on multiple networks, and it seems like Vista just has slow networking.

I've disabled Remote Compression on both computers and that doesn't help the situation. I rarely exceed 1mb/sec.

What can I do to fix this? It shouldn't be this difficult.

 

Drivers for wireless devices updated?
Is the wireless device supported for Vista?
Good wireless signal?
Try different wireless channels? (sometimes other wireless networks can cause interference)

 

What speeds should I expect files to transfer between two computers on a wireless network. I'm not in an area where other networks would be an issue.

I remember Windows XP transferred files really easily. Just drag and drop and everything worked perfectly. Windows Vista doesn't seem to do that.

 

You'll be lucky to see almost 50% of advertised speed (eg: 802.11g standard about 25Mbps, 802.11b ~ 5Mbps).

Also, when you mentioned 1mb, do you mean 1Mbps?

Have you updated Vista with SP1? It is supposed to have various speed fixes:
"Improves performance over Windows Vista’s current performance across the following scenarios:

* 25% faster when copying files locally on the same disk on the same machine
* 45% faster when copying files from a remote non-Windows Vista system to a SP1 system
* 50% faster when copying files from a remote SP1 system to a local SP1 system"
