I'm working on a Thinkpad T510 using Windows 7. Have a wireless connection with Verizon Fios. Am having a problem with internet access involving any interactive site such as web versions of Outlook and AOL and Evernote. Using these programs has slowed down significantly. Has lasted about two weeks gradually getting worse. Happens with both IE and FF. The other computers connected to the network are not having similar problems. Do not have these problems when I use the same programs on the family wired computer. Security software (PC Tools Firewall, SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes, Commodo, anti-virus) aren't showing anything. Dowloaded some optional updates including IE9 and a graphics update about the time the problem started. Had to delete and replace the HD graphics download from Lenovo which seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Have been a bunch of Windows updates lately. This is complicated by the fact that the family computer which the router runs off of seems to be dying. Not sure where to start to assess this. Too many variables. Thoughts???
    Thanks, RB

Backup your data files and do a system restore to a date before the issues started. Much easier to start the updates over and check for issues after each one that way.

My personal theory is to not run any update until others have tested it. For windows that means about 3 days. I like to run updates on a Friday or Monday. They usually remove the worst of the bad updates from the Tuesday major update releases by Thursday.

Thanks. However, this seems like a drastic and imprecise solution. Not sure it would help if this is a malware problem. With some further research, have noticed talk about rootkits related to OWA and IE9. Have not used system restore before. I'm assuming that files (Word, Excel, Access, etc.) would be lost. My files are backed up thankfully. Turning back the clock 4-6 weeks on this machine would be a problem. Reinstalling the updates from Windows and Lenovo one-by-one and checking for the problem after each would be tedious. Other thoughts? Some more focused and specific strategies? Would I be better off moving this thread into the software forum under Outlook?
    Thanks again, RB

I wouldn't do each update individually. I would do one family of updates, take good notes, wait a day and continue on. By that I mean do the windows updates one day, the driver updates another day, change the browser versions another day, etc. If you can isolate the issue to being a driver or being a windows update you can save yourself hours of trying to isolate the problem. You will likely still have some troubleshooting to do.

I refused to do system restore for years. One time I was forced into it and it has potential to be helpful. It's a "do over" that lets you skip all the troubleshooting the patching and lets you try again. You do need to back up your files but restoring only the new files is rarely time consuming.

Good luck, I hope wanting to close your thread means you found your solution.

Hoenstly I would look at Disk Cleanup, Defrag., deleting extra unneeded files then empty trash to free up hard disk space and then reboot. Sometimes things start lagging because space isn't available for caching and running low on memory...
I saw that you asked for this to be closed. If you got it fixed please let us know, I am curious about the fix.
If you want more help let us know. Your not getting a better group of folks to harass about an issue. :)
