Slowest Pc Ever

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum but I don't know if this is a software issue or a hardware issue. I have an Asus laptop running Windows 7. As far as I can tell this started with a Windows update. The PC started to run slower and a lot of programs would not respond. I did a system restore, reinstalled the critical updates to windows and everything seem to be running ok. Earlier this week, I noticed the Windows update icon in the system tray so I went to the windows updater, downloaded the files and installed them. In the past, windows download the updates in the background and then notified me when I needed to restart my computer to finish the install. After this last update my laptop was unbelievably slow so I went to safe mode and did another system restore which did not help this time. I went back into safe mode and ran Malwarebytes, resulting in no issues found except for the root kit scanner has not been running for quite some time. I then disabled Windows updater with no improvement whatsoever. At the present time, after I reboot, my PC is usable for about 15 minutes and then becomes increasingly slower and all programs "Not responding" to the point that it will take 30 minutes for it to shut down normally if I wait too long. I have shut the computer off, removed the battery, waited a couple minutes and reinstalled the battery which did not help. I also run Trend Micro Internet Security and Microsoft Office. Thanks in advance.

Please post the exact model of the laptop and what version of Windows 7 is being used. How much RAM is installed? Look at the specs on the hard drive. What is the size? How much free space remains?

    What updates did you install?
October is a bundle. I did not install the "throw in everything" bundle, KB3185330. I instead went to the catalog and download the Security Only bundle, KB3192391 and installed that instead.

    Thank you for your reply.
    Asus model K53e
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
    4 GB ramGB usable)
C drive: total 186 GB, 142 GB used, 43.4 free
D drive: total 254 GB, 25.8 GB used, 228 free

I installed all of the critical updates. I cannot see the updates installed at the present, but I presume I will have to turn windows updater back on to see these. Also, there has been several times I have to turn Trend Mico back on. Still, I have about 15 mins after boot before everything start to go south.

Hi my friend , using msconfig you will be better ,

    Go to :
Start - Run typing msconfig - ok
In Start up tab selecting disable all - ok

You have to restart your laptop take the changes , even you could run an online scanner ensuring that your laptop is free from viruses etc

another thought is checking your health / performance status of your laptop hdd's with this tool

informing about your hdd's model as well

No. You simply select check for updates then the lists populate again.

As I said, I was offered an update that is not critical; it is a bundle and includes everything. October's patching system is completely different from the way Windows 7 has updated in the past.

If you see KB3185330 uninstall it. There might be something in there causing the problem.

KB3192391 is the patch with Security Only updates.

You might want to keep this site bookmarked
    https://www.askwoody.com/

As long as Woody has MS-Defcon set at 2, there is no reason to install patches because the effect on computers is unclear.

I disabled all in msconfig. For a while I thought this maybe the culprit, but before an hour was up, the same issues re-appeared. I finally had to hit the power button to shut down.
F-secure online scanner reported no issues and disk performance reported 100%.

Windows updater showed this was installed, however, it was not in the Add/Remove program's list. Is this showing up this way because I did a system restore?

Windows updates do not show in Add/Remove programs list.

When you check the installed updates, this is what you see

    update_history.jpg
Click the underlined Installed Updates and you get the updates that can be uninstalled.

    You uninstall there.

KB1385330 does show in the history but not in the Uninstall an update. I also hid this in install updates. The disk usage rate is at 100% most of the time.

I think you have this KB number wrong.
Do you mean 3185330? Does it say it installed successfully? Or does it say it failed?

If it did not install, that accounts for the 100% CPU Usage (it is still trying to install) and also that it does no appear in Uninstall an update.

Sorry, I did transpose the number. Here is my update history as of yesterday which says it did install successfully.

I did a system restore after 10/17/2016, so that should have removed the ones listed above. Here is the "Uninstall an update" as of yesterday in which the 5 that reported installed successfully on 10/17/2016 do not show in this list.

    upload_2016-10-24_20-15-27.png

As of yesterday, Windows update shows I have 6 important updates to install, however, I have hidden KB3185330 and, at the present, have Windows Update to check for updates turned off.

I hope this helps clarify what I have done. With that being said, would KB3185330 still be trying to install? System is starting to lag now after Windows has been up for 30 minutes.

I don't know if 3185330 is expecting to install since the restore changed what was done on October 17th.
