Sluggish Laptop

    I have been on the malware forum and they havent been able to resolve the situation and the moderator suggested i ask over here.

    I tried to do a system restore but that hasnt helped either.

    When i go onto internet explorer when ever i watch a video it makes my computer and the internet very sluggish and slow with a high cpu.

    Please help!!!

    Hi Herbz

    What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

    Have you tried another browser to see if you get the same issue, Firefox, Chrome etc?


    What you may need to do is to uninstall and reinstall Java and Flash as they are the general media players on the internet, the below should help with this

    I would ask what security software you have installed but all of that and not having multiple apps installed would have been covered in the malware forum, so that's not likely to be the issue.

    Im using windows 7 service pack 1 64bit.

    Ive carried out the instructions you mentioned. I will test it out on youtube to see the results and get back to you thanks.

    I use antispyware and malewarebytes as anti virus software.

    The suggestions you said didnt help.

    Windows seems to run slow altogether and i know when the problem hasnt resolved as the start up doesnt make a clear sound. More of a stuttering start up sound.

    CPU is 100% with iexplorer, perfmon.exe and svchost taking up the bulk.

    Hi

    Did not Firefox help at all in playing the online videos?

    Disable your antivirus apps and try the internet videos and see if they work ok.... you could try safe mode with networking (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) and try the videos, do they work.

    How quick is your internet speed?
    choose the closet server and test http://www.speedtest.net/

    Might indicate a hardware problem like a failing hard drive or RAM going bad.
    Have you tested your hard drive and memory?

    Its been better since ive disabled java but i guess i will stil need to use that it.

    I havent tested my RAM or hardrive. How would i go about doing that?

    The internet connections are okay because ive tried it out in many places.

    there is many tools which helps you to test your memory with memtest86 ( 5 hours at least ) 7th pass is very important even you have to find the manufacturer of hdd testing your hdd

    go to Start
    Right click to My Computer
    Properties
    Hardware tab
    Device Manager
    Disk Drivers

    Merry Christmas :)

    Ive noticed that when my computer heats up a little - mainly having to many applications or watching a movie the fan starts (HP are terrible, never had a laptop that heats so quickly). This is what is causing the high cpu and slow down of my laptop.

    I will try the memory test as well.
