For Some reason i cannot create a new shortcut. I can right click a file and create a shortcut, but if i right click the desktop, for example, and say new -> shortcut, nothing happens. Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi

Seems to be at times an issue when either tweaking software for the OS is used or some other 3rd party software takes over some of the file associations, the fix for this is a registry change or return to normal.

Either copy the quoted text below into a Notepad file and click File > Save As > then in the dropdown to Save as Type, choose All Files, then name the file say shortcutfix.reg

once saved double click it follow the prompts and merge that file with the registry ( with the registry being the a core component of the OS, do back it up first, and this app will do that http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1267.html )

or download the saved one I have to fix this issue on Vista.

Oh, i just remembered another problem you guys may be able to help with. Autoplay doesnt work on my laptop anymore, for the cd drive and usb drives. I have tried contacting microsoft but have had no solution thus far. I have checked that it is enabled in the registry, and everything is as it should be, so I am completely puzzled as to why it does not work. :confused

Run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>Cdrom>
make sure that autorun is set to 1.
