Small Windows Xp logo on startup after HD Stuff

My brother got a new hard drive. His computer is messed up and so he asked me to install XP on it and format it and stuff. So I try unhooking my slave drive, and setting his up as a slave. Then I went into XP and put in the instalation cd for the drive and partitioned it, telling it to be a slave drive. Then I decided against that and choose to format it as a master. So, then I started that, but realized that it was copying files off of MY hard drive. Since it had only so far been at my documents, I stopped that and gave my brother back his HD. Then When I re-hook all my stuff as before, I start up XP and it gets past the screen with the bar going across for a minute or so, the screen goes black, the mouse appears, and then the screen with the blue bars on top and bottom, and the XP logo appears. It is strange, because the logo is much smaller then you would expect. my moniter is a 17 inch i think and the logo is about 1 inch by 1.5 inches. Also, My mouse can still move somehow. The computer just sits there for hours if I let it. I have tried safe mode and safe mode with networking, but they both do the same thing, except they restart at the blue screen. they used to restart anyway for some reason, so that is not part of THIS problem. I tried to run WIndows XP Repair install from the disk, but it shut down for no reason while loading driver stuff. I have no idea.

 

OK... My Dvd Drive is broken. I took it out and I hear a sloshing sound. I just booted from my other cd crive and i am going to repair install XP.
