    Good Day MG's -

I'm trying to print from a Win XP PC on a shared printer which is connected to a Mac OS X Computer. 1st time doing this. Seems straight forward, however I'm directed to "configure an SMB network printer" from my XP machine in order to print on this Mac Shared Printer.
Question is... How do I config a "SMB" network printer on Win XP?
Is it straight forward and easy and I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thx,

This depends on how the printer is setup on the Mac. Appletalk? IP?

    Find out. :)

    Thx K -

Printer attached to Mac OS X PC, will not use Appletalk. Reading tells me to turn on Windows Sharing on Mac and this will allow Windows PCs to print. caveat being the need to config the SMB Network printer which I am unfamiliar with. IP would be the choice over AT.

I agree, IP would be the choice, that is how the printer should be configured on the Mac. Turning on Windows sharing will allow the Mac to be visible on Windows machines, but if the printer is setup as IP, it should just work.

KK - Unfortunately w/out add'l equipment I'm unable to set up at IP printer (I think). The printer is attached to a local Mac OS X PC which is in turn on the local network. Per Apple Support, I should be able to share this printer with Windows PCs on the Network. The caveat being it must be a Samba or SMB Netw. I've read, but I'm still unclear on the SMB network. Is this a Client/Service/Protocol on my Network Properties?

    All Help Much Appreciated.

So the printer doesn't have its own IP, it is connect directly to the Mac?

Yes. Currently it is connected directly to the Mac. I'd like to simply "Share" it with the WinXP PCs on Network, but I'm beginning to believe it's futile. I will pick up a hub w/print server if needed, but I really thought we could finally have a mixed Mas OSX & Win XP enviroment which was friendly.
