Would anyone happen to have a clue as to what this is? It has been (is) quarantined (from Startup) in my Windows Defender program as having "potentially unwanted behavior".

It's actually listed as "SmcService.Ink" - but the ".Ink" part is something I somehow ended-up with in all my various (and sundry) "tweakings" ... rolleyes :-o :-D :cry

.lnk is a shortcut to the actual file (probably an exe type).

Thanks plodr, but it's the "SmcService" (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\SmcService.Ink) part that I'm wondering about.

At first I thought it might have something to do with my Firewall (Sygate/Symantec), but now I don't think so, or am not so sure...?

Yes, it's part of Symantec. Any shortcut (.lnk file) can be right-clicked and property selected. It should then show you the path to the actual exe it is a shortcut for. If the .lnk does not point to Symantec then start scanning.

Yes, thank you. I discovered that it was connected with my firewall.

    Thanks again very much!
