Smooth windows start up

Whenever I start windows I have to go through a screen that asks me what I want to do - how can I do a start up without these windows popping up? I'm the only one who uses this computer so I don't need other user issues, etc. I also have a similar issue when I shut windows.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Hi ron... sorry... grreatRon :p

Control Panel >> User accounts >> "change the way users log on and off" :)

Or delete every other account except yours
ALTHOUGH I DONT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS!

unless you know the risks and are happy to be running in admin all the time, which is a security risk! [if you not prepared!]

What screens are you referring to? Can you describe them please?

Well, Vista has that "things you can do" window which the user can disable with a checkmark.

But until OP supplies more info we can only guess.

    I am using XP.

~Q~ I already did what you suggested and that did away with the welcome screen but now I get a Log In screen and I have to hit OK for start up to continue. I would like to be able to skip that step.

    Any other suggestions?

    Go to run and type.....
Then untick the box that says "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer"

    That should do it.

I spoke too soon. After I did that and tried to log on I got a message that said "unable to log you on because of an account restriction". I have tried everything I could think of from going to Safe Mode and creating a new password (I don't think there was a password on this used laptop since I did not need one previously) and resetting passwords and then going back to the screen you suggested and re-checking the item, all without success. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can try next?

The command worked OK on my old XP system, though if anything I felt bootup was even slower than with the logon screen. When you executed the command you were using an account with admin rights?

I got the problem corrected by trying various things in Safe Mode and changing some of the restrictions. I finally apparently did the right things in Administration cause now it works. I didn't notice any difference in the time of starting up.
