Snooze button stuck?

    Story here.

So here we go. We have ample warning. Now what are we going to do? Nothing. Our hands are tied. Doesn't matter who is in office. The only thing we can do is hope that the passengers act in time. But, I know that is unlikely. Why? Because we are not programmed for preemptive strikes, only reactionary force. Of course, it has been shown that can be too late. So, what do we do now that we know what is going to happen? They've done it once and they know now that they can do it again. Because we can't stop them. It's not politically correct. Racial profiling is a bad thing. Who will we blame the next time?

We have to quit hitting that dang snooze button.

I guess 3000 dead wasn't enough incentive to dump polite stupidity. Maybe nothing is. Pollyanna lives.

Yep. I think we have lost our country. It may be too late.
The biggest enemy is not the terrorists, though. Its the Left.

    I liked this quote:
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: Most Muslims are not terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim. Anyone who ignores this reality is abetting the next 9/11.

Interesting, isn't it? Good quote IMHO.

But then, not ALL terrorists are muslim. To concentrate on one race you are opening up a new flaw concerning other groups who are not muslim (but may be influenced against the west or against america), who are just as dangerous if not more so. Think about it. An Americian Citizen with a clean police record would never be the suspect of a terror attack.

The UK is preparing for a terrorist attack, but instead of putting the money into the prevention, they're putting the money into the aftermath. Not very optimistic, is it?

  6. Robster12

    Robster12 The Horse Whisperer

Actually, muslim is more of a religious status than a race (though most terrorists are Arabic).... The Arabic world has ALWAYS been a fighting culture.

    No, it is not optimistic.

It's been well known for quite a few years that the radical Muslim terrorists have been trying to recruit non-arabs, as they're much easier to insert in hot areas. So far they haven't had much luck, even among the Black Muslims, who would be the most likely to aid them.

For sure there are non-Muslim terrorists in the world. But it's the Muslim variety that has declared war on US. Not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all Arabs are even Muslim. But so far, virtually ALL the terrorists that we're immediately concerned with are Arab Muslims. That's not prejudice, that's simply the subset of humanity that contains our enemies. Unless and until that changes, we must focus on Arab Muslims. Not that all, or even a majority of THEM are enemies, but that all the ENEMIES are within THEM. A very uncomfortable reality for those that want to treat all people equally. In this case, treating all people equally dilutes valuable resources and efforts by over 90%, which is not very productive when someone out there's working out how to kill more of us. The clock is ticking while we frisk 75 year old white ladies. Stupidity at its finest.

Precisley. And it seems to me that people are afraid to catagorise in this way. The idea seems to be "the enemy" is like a completley seperate entity which has no race or religion, and they are neither here, and they arn't nowhere, but they are everywhere. It's kinda odd to see this sort of wishy washy idea in a government with such a strong feeling against terrororism.

Partly it's our overeaching phobia about fairness and not offending anybody for any reason, partly it's national guilt over incarcerating the Japanese here in the U.S. during WWII.
What's NOT ever said about rounding up the Japanese, is that while most of them were loyal Americans that felt betrayed by their own country, there were indeed Japanese spies and infiltrators here. They had detailed information about all the ships in Pearl Harbor by name, pictures and anchorage locations, details about all the aircraft & where they were, and detailed information about our habits and schedules before they hit Pearl Harbor. Keeping them isolated no doubt did help keep Japanese espionage minimized. War sucks. In war you sometimes have to do things that suck. Or lose and die. (shrug) Maybe we'd rather lose and die.

at the risk of getting involved in yet another political thread.....

england has a great deal more experience with terrorism than the US. our terrorist are white. not all Irish are terrorists but all IRA members are....so ban all the Irish? pick on all the Irish? be prejudice against or scared of all the Irish? a great deal of the money for the IRA comes from the US. its not the US in general, its the misguided few Irish- Americans that think they are helping their contrymen... but no matter...include the US as our enemies? blame America for the naivety of the few? bomb all of Ireland because of its sympathies with terrorists? invade the south as harborer's of terrorism? bomb America as a source of funding? can nobody see the parallels , the irony, and the unfairness of these statements? the Irish have real issues with england in the north. not that that is an excuse, but the Muslims also have real issues with the hypocrisy, the monetarism, and the world domination of the US. maybe instead of 'targeting' anybody, we should all be 'targeting' ourselves. why is it that a prison cell has a bible but a school room cannot? where is the conservation and respect for nature in this quest for ever more pennies and power? how many of us live in our communities for the benefit of that community? the people have elected a government that is based on wealth, not integrity, on selfish desire for power, not the good of the people. the idea that the rich cannot be corrupted is ludicrous. only millionaires are viable candidates in America. no amount of honor or even plain common decency can outweigh the money in opposing campaigns. so now we all grumble that a man that doesn't even have what it takes to make his own way in the world, now leads the world ineffectually. if the people of America want change, they have to change the concept of 'the great American dream'. instead of it meaning that it is possible for anyone to make their fortune, maybe it should mean that it is possible for anyone to make a safe and loving home, to have enough to live on and a penny to spare, to bring up children with honor and character? i know in advance that some of you are going to see this as 'left wing extremism' or 'bashing America' or that i 'don't know what I'm talking about'. for the record i don't have 'wings' only a heart and a brain. i am PROUD to be able to claim dual citizen ship and think America has the ability to be a shining light in this world, instead of a country that is feared, ridiculed and despised for its waste, excesses and corruption. just MHO. aloha

Laurie, if radical Islam was just targeting the U.S., for the causes you propose, your position might have merit. A lot of what you suggest are great ideas in their own right, but have nothing to do with radical Islam's goals.

The radical Islamic government in Sudan is likely to shoot and starve possibly up to a million black non-muslims this year alone. They've already killed a lot. For the crime of not converting to Islam.

Africa, Indonesia, southeast Asia, even in the Middle East against other Muslims that simply aren't Muslim enough to suit them. Or other Arabs that don't want to be Muslim at all. Some fairly impressive plans in Jolly Old England that got foiled, thank goodness.

Their goal is not to spank the evil old U.S., their goal is to conquer the entire world for their version of Islam. Anybody that tries to oppose them are high on their hate list, but their GOAL is the entire world. This isn't a U.S. problem, it's a world problem. Doing all the things you suggest won't change that a bit.

Other than the areas where fighting is current and active, most of the world would rather just roll over and go back to sleep, or watch another football game, of one kind or another, but it's a global problem, that's been growing in strength and intensity for years.

If we'd stopped Hitler and Tojo at their first atrocities, many millions of deaths could have been avoided. We're way past the "at first" stage with this problem, but just like WWII, the longer you wait to dig in your heels, the worse the problem is. Wait long enough, and it's impossible. Ignore it and it will NOT go away. Unless you're willing to accept their way of life, which I don't think even you are willing to do.

The problem is that the Muslims want to impose Shari`ah on THE WHOLE WORLD....
Islam on the left, Islam on the right....

    Its very serious.
Who will stand up to say no?
    The UN?
If you believe that... Look at who is on the Human Rights Council.

The thing is.... if you don't like the fit of the canvas bag to cover yourself with......

its time to get real heads up.

This stuff has been going on since the Carter administration!

Since around 700 AD actually. The first wave conquered Northern Africa, the Balkans and started up Europe through Spain. Were stopped somewhere in France IIRC. Their successes since have been much more modest until they studied and incorporated the guerrila tactics of Che Guevara and the Chinese/North Vietnamese during our fighting there. That and the support from the rich, both governmental and personal, in the oil-rich Mid-East have put them on the move again. They clearly remember their earlier success, and consider this phase a continuation of the same struggle... with payback thrown in for centuries of humiliation... and intend to win if it takes another millenium. They don't study math or science, but their historical memory is sharper than a western museum curator's.

your right of course gt. it is a world problem. it is the UN that should be united on this. if all the brains and talent that ran around bushes bum (and other bums) put their talents to work for the collective good, then maybe we would see peace in our time. the point i was trying to make was that 'we the people' are now spectators in this sport. even so, if people stopped trying to impress everybody else, stopped trying to outdo everybody else, or pander to everybody else ...if we stood up for what was right, not what was profitable....here on our own ground....then maybe we would be in a position to unite this world against the likes of bin laden. aloha

In a perfect world, the United Nations (something of an oxymoron, as the nations aren't all that united) should be a real force for good in the world. In the real world, the U.N. has become largely a vehicle where the poor countries keep trying to find ways to get the rich nations to give them more money. It gives despots and dictators legitimacy and the same vote as moral free countries. It comdemns Israel for it's relatively small excesses in the face of murdering oposition that's STILL sworn to destroy Israel and not live in peace under any circumstances, ignores terrorism and murder by the Palestinians, ignored the slaughter in Rwanda, is ignoring the slaughter in Sudan, fed money to Saddam Hussein and let him starve his own people through the Oil-For-Food program scandal that they're trying very hard to ignore, couldn't even enforce their own resolutions against Hussein, and refused to follow through with the "Or Else" clauses that they wrote themselves relating to Iraq. Coruption and dirty dealing in the U.N. make the U.S. look very good. Any organization that can have Libya head a human rights commission, and Syria sit on the Security Council is not going to do anything about global terrorism. They don't seem to mind at all that Syria conquered Lebanon many years ago, and still occupy it. The U.N. has been good for sending aid to disaster areas, except where armies in those areas refuse to let them distribute the aid (Somolia recently, Sudan today, others...) as forced starvation has become a standard war tactic in Africa. They will send "peace keepers" to wander the streets aimlessly after a war is basically over, (and abuse by the peace-keepers is fairly common) but they've got no stomach to actually fight evil. They can't even come to any agreement on what evil is.

The U.N. is not the great hope of the free world.

The UN is horrid. A scourge. All except the World Health Organization. That is the ONLY thing the UN has ever done right. I wish they were only worthless.
But they actually stand against what's right.

Big Bad Doom on the terrorists, can you can't say please when you do it!

I really wish we could get past the "Left" & "Right" labels regarding national threats. This isn't a political issue, it's a survival issue. Partisan politics were just as strong in 1940 as they are now, but the day after Pearl Harbor most Americans managed to shelve their politics for the most part and worry about the country as a whole. Seemed to happen on 9/11 again, but didn't last very long this time. We'll likely manage to tear the country apart ourselves before the terrorists get strong enough to do it. (sigh)

I agree with you G.T. Left, right, up, down, it doesnt matter. There are people who impair the general populations survival, and people who help its survival, and nothing to do with politics. You just have to work out which is which before its too late.
