Wow Emma....it's really coming down! Is it still snowing?

We had a friend trying to get to London to see her son who lives there and she wound up getting stuck in Ireland for a few days. I'm pretty sure she finally made it.

    Great shots!:)

Glad I finishged work yesterday and took today off.

    Great photos Emma.

All the snow is gone here but for the last 3 days we have had zero temps and high winds.

P.S. I see you don't have to go far for the take away:-D

Hehe thanks. It has stopped snowing now. I love it when it first falls but the slushy icy slippy mess that's left behind is terrible.

LOL @ Bill, I regularly call in there after work.

Yeah the slusshy stuff is bad, just been too cold here for it to get that way yet, still a bit powdery.

Looks like someone is having a White Christmas!! Nice shots, Emms. ;)

    Wow, great photos, Emms.:cool

Here, in Cairns, we are on a Cyclone Watch TC Tasha. Fortunately for us it is only a TC alert #1 out of 5, so is not very worrying.

It is Christmas Day here, OZ time, but with lots of rain.

Your first photo reminds me of a Dickens painting of the shopfronts.
All the best for Christmas. :)

Merry Christmas Emms, that town is wonderful, great buildings and pics, made me smile. What does the man in uniform with the bike do? Just curious as usual...

Yep as Dave said, he is a postman, I thought it made for a cracking shot for some reason. Postie in the snow. Peg!! Merry Christmas to you too my lovely.

@ Augie .. yes I agree, Chinese and Indian food fills you up quickly, but then you're ravenous half an hour later. :-D Other foods which tend to have the same effect (at least for me)

    • Salad
    • McDonalds

More snow scene pics from today coming soon, slightly more scenic this time.

@Bazza, it does look a bit "Dickenish" I agree!

Oh I think this is going to be the norm for us from now on as the climate shift is torwards colder winters again.

    More good ones, Em.

The snow is coming here starting today. I think we could get up to a foot between this afternoon and tomorrow.

    Woohoo!:(

I heard you may be in for one to two feet today!! Sounds like a hot toddy type of day for you, Laura.

I think I'm still hungover from Christmas Eve, Tim. No hot toddy's for me today. Maybe tonight though after being in with my girls all day!:-D

I think the heaviest will be further east of us. Hoping anyway. I think ours is supposed to be at the most 12 inches. It's coming down now.

Spend a while in the hot tub, then roll in the new snow. That should take care of any hangover!!! :-D:-D

I bet! Are you in the 15 inch range, Chas? We are only getting about 6, or so the weather people are saying.

  25. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Most likely! I think we have well over 10 inches already. Hard to tell sine the wind is blowing it around so much. Definitely blizzard conditions. From the below two pictures (cropped to reduce size) you can get a little bit of an idea. The first shows more than 12 inches on top of garbage can lids and it is blowing off of them too. Second is a snapshot of my wive's car which was cleaned off once already earlier. You can see how hard it is currently snowing. And yes I know I hijacked the thread with snow scenes from the USA. :)

Well I just measured in 4 different spots trying to subtract out for wind drifting and I have over 19 inches already. For our UK friends, that is 48.26 cm. :cry And it is still coming down at blizzard levels. It is going to take long time to shovel out tomorrow.

Wow doesnt look like you will be going out anytime soon Chas!

Hahaha on the cm for us Brits, TBH I still like to see 'in' over cm as I can get that in my head better to size, also like C over F as when I see 32F I think mmm warm, oh hell its not in real figures.

That's our Chas... technical as ever :-D

I can't believe the amount of snow that's acumulated on those bin lids! That is proper snow huh!

Ya know Kes, it's usually me that posts photos like those but this year has been slow as it's just cold here with some 4" on the ground ATM. Typical la Nina year.

    You all got slammed, Chas!

We only got maybe 4 inches or so. I can't say I'm upset about that. Hubby has the snow blower out at the moment doing the driveway.

  32. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Yes the final total in my area was 30 in ( 76.2 cm ). :(

  33. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

That's for sure. Still shoveling out! Had to call it a day for now as we are too tired and cold. I have a very wide and long driveway and walk way so there is way too much to do.

See the final total Dave ( in cm too :-D )

Are you having to take off from work because of the snow? Bet the whole area is having a snow day!! At least you have a White Christmas!! LOL

No! Luckily I had already taken off this week. Just keeping up with some emails which can be done from home.

    A super white Post Christmas.

WOW, that amount or even a 10th of it would cripple the UK, I know what it was like to shovel the 4in or so off our driveway, I ached for 4 days! (unfit as hell)

Hahahahhahahaha, that amount of snow moving without heavy equipement and only hand moving would kill me :(

Hope its not affecting your power and gas etc as I know that amount of snow can cause havok to the ulilities.

So what are the temps today Chas, we got to a low of -17c last week at one of the met office stations locally.

  39. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

No problem in my area with power. At least not yet. Heavy snow on trees and power lines ( epecially when they freeze at night ) could still be an issue. Got pretty warm today! 34 F ( about 1.1C ). Tonight should go down to about 20 to 22 F ( -6.6 to -5.5C ). It's a heat wave. :-D

I thought the reason you had children was to make them shovel the snow!!

We are running in the mid - 40's, but should hit the mid - 60's for a couple of days this week!! Hehehe.

It's why I moved from Maryland years ago for Calif. ( Should have stayed in Calif., but what can you do? )

It's all relative, I suppose. There are parts of the US where it would cripple them as well. In the Northeast, we are more than used to it and prepared. It'll usually keep people in for a day and that's it. The power outages depend on the whether the snow it wet or not. It was too cold for that, so thinking not a ton of outages. It still sucks though, doesn't it Chas? :( It looks pretty though.

Yeah I know, the further south you are in many countries that dont get vast amounts of snow the less prepared for any heavier fall the local gov is, its sadly a balancing act between do you pay for equipement that may not be used alot or just work around any heavier snowfall or ice, this is where pre-planning and execution comes in.

Dont think we did both well again, always seems like to me that we need three natural or mechanical disasters to happen before we start to do anything about it, the next issue now for us and it will be the 3rd year its happened is floods due to melting snow.

Just watching BBC News 24 earlier and Northern Ireland is suffering from no water supplies for 1000s of communities and Belfast City as the thaw is causing cracked pipes.

You need to get yourself a snowblower. They are awesome. Particularly on the light weight snow.

You just have to watch where your face is. We were driving past this guy doing his sidewalk and watch as he turned it on with his face right in front of the blower part. roflmao
