So, about this "Vista" upgrade ...

I just bought a notebook for my honey and it states that this unit is eligible for a free Windows Vista upgrade when it issues. Does anyone have any idea what Vista will be like and how it will change Windows? Are there any early contraindications on this program; or is everyone going to be kept in the dark until it issues? I'd kinda hate to get into the same imbroglio we had on Windows 97 and XP sp2.

 

Personally, I would stick with XP until the point where it is not supported. Otherwise, Vista is just like using XP but with a new cover. Now, there are some major changes in security, and media, but otherwise, it is the same.

If the upgrade is free - then there isn't really any reason NOT to go for it. There are extra security features not found in XP, amongst other improvements.

Rest assured that there will be more support for Vista even though XP will still be supported. If you go for Vista there should be less hassle (in theory anyway). Right now, since Vista isn't available for retail there is no knowing for sure.

 

Apparently this upgrade is only available if an "Express Upgrade to Windows Vista" order is submitted between 10-26-2006 and 03-31-2007. I guess after that they will either charge you or you will have to get it elsewhere.
