I spent 8 hours in the ER yesterday for no good reason and I'm pretty pissed off about it.

For days I had been nursing a particular brand of back pain. I know it sounds goofy, but I could actually "feel" my kidneys, and it was bad. Well, it turned into recurring pains in my middle, weakness, and the repeated feeling that I was going to throw up... So fearing a Kidney infection (having had one before) and Having no insurance (because PAY for it, God damnit) I was conflicted as to what to do.

I called the registered Nurses line, explained my situation, and she urged me yes, you should go in, and not wait until after work. Well - I had just left work, 2 days prior, because I wasn't feeling well. That morning I had felt ok, and it just deteriorated rapidly.

I didn't want to leave because leaving is an "exception" and you only get so many before you get a write up - and being a single mom, guess how many I already have? Not to mention I'm already on last chance notice because I accessed a system I was not permitted to which was considered an ethics violation, so if I get fired for leaving yesterday I'll be both ecstatic - I hate that job - and really pissed off, because god Damnit, I need the money.

Well, after 8 hour, 4 pokes at attempted bloodwork (I have baby veins) 4 more at an attempted IV (you should SEE the bruise) the uralysis and even a PELVIC exam *shudder*... Guess what they found? Not a god damn thing.

They are convinced there IS something wrong, but they want to let is "fester" for a few more days, because they think my body is reaction to some sort of infection before my white count is up to compensate but still....

Do you know how much that's going to cost me? And if I lose my job over it too, I'm so so screwed!!! Lab work, IV, ER visit... $700 easy. That's gonna cost me more than my wedding would have.

    I hate money. Alot. HATE.

Needed to vent, am stressed. Need ice-cream. Just GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

    Hi Wenchie.

I feel for you. Here in the UK we can get our medical attention for free although it lacks the quality of the Private Hospitals. Thats roughly £350 a week! More than most of my freinds earn in a week. its ridiculous.

Also I can understand where your coming from about sitting there for hours and getting nowhere. I had a nasty accident and shattered both ankles, they told me I had to wait a year and they would operate because the damage was so bad. I was supposed to let it heal for a year and then have it repaired. Went to the hospital 2 days ago, `oh no, we wont be operating, its just tough luck, you will never get better than you are now!` I coulda killed them! Idiots.

Just stick with it and hopefully you will get things sorted eventually. I know lifes a bitch sometimes but you sound like a fighter from what ive read of your threads and youll get through eh?

Anyways thats about it from me! Cya!

    ;)

Aye, red blooded bush-despising american. I have much else I need evaluated too, but I can't pay the cost of insurance, it's nearly $200/paycheck since i HAVE to enroll as a family - and I still have to pay the first $500 plus deductibles so what's the god damn point? I'd rather go when I think I HAVE to and suck it up.

Unfortunately, medical insurance can be a major cost in the U.S., especially. Not uncommon for people with decent paying jobs spending 30%, or more of their income on medical insurance,

In Australia, it's a lot better. Most people have about 3% of their wages taken out for Medicare (a form of national health insurance). Some Doctors will 'bulk bill', meaning that the cost of the consultation are covered by the Govt., in many cases. People on Social Security get free Doctor's consultation, most medications heavily subsidized, free hospital treatment, etc.

Look after your career, (even though it may suck), but look after your health first. (Bit of a 'Catch 22' situation, I know. Bad kidney function can lead to all sorts of blood problems and health disorders, as you know. May pay to get a full blood set of tests done, if you haven't already, including liver function and so on. I went through all that, and much more about seven months ago when I went through a real bad spell.

Anyway, try and keep your spirits up and positive (not always an easy ask, I know), and like I said before we are here for ya, to.

Take care, and yak to y soon.

Sorry to hear you've bad health problems at present.

Like Phantom said: Look after your career, (even though it may suck), but look after your health first.

Health insurance can be steep, but at least you and you're family are covered in case of emergency (like now for you).

Here's wishing you good health and very soon.

    Cheers
