and there is only one terminal to the ide cable and only one power supply for the hdd. wtf? so i can't run a 2nd hdd for my massive media collection? thats not good.

You will need a new IDE Cabel that has 2 HDD connectors.
For the power supply, all the connectors are the same.

I think he is saying that there is only enough power connectors for a CD device and an HD. Right? If that is the case, that may be all the Power Supply can handle.....

you can buy a splitter that turns one power conecction into 2. and a new 80 pin ide cable.
i think my dell power supply is something like a meger 250 watts for a pentium 3ghz with 2 hard drives 2 dvdroms and a geforce card.

exactly. only one power supply hook up. it pisses me off, now i have all this stuff and no where to put it. oh well, its my parents machine so i don't really care, i'll have a monster media machine for christmas. i was just wondering if this was standard dell crap or if it was just my cheap parents.

anyway so do i need to replace my power supply and ide cable? thanks guys.

Just replace the IDE cable and get a y-splitter for the power. You should be ok with your power supply.

If you were to replace your power supply, you'd have to look into if is a normal atx one or not. Some of the dells have the pins on the connectors of the power supply switched around. If you hook up a regular atx supply, your mobos fried.

Dell probably made this slimmed down Power Supply to save money, putting a Y extension on one of the connectors will probably be fine. Putting an IDE cable with 2 connectors certainly won't hurt.

Good Luck on getting that Monster Machine.
