so I'm following your directions....

Vital stats: WIN XP home, SP1, running Webroot Spy Sweeper.
Problems include: highjacking, porn pop-ups, inablity to use desktop themes (background just stays gray), and persistent 'virtual memory is too low' messages.

All windows updates are current, except for SP2. I disabled system resources as instructed. No strange windows services. Hidden files viewing enabled. All spyware programs downloaded and installed.

In safe mode I ran CCleaner, & McAfee Stinger. I couldn't run the online scans because my browser was highjacked. I then ran Spyware & Ad Aware SE. Ran all the other sugested programs and then tried to run Buster. Kept getting 'Error Removing! : C:\WINNT\System32\hlpfcgd.dll', and it stopped working at 26% having been scanned. Rebooted into regular mode and still have problems.

Thanks for your help so far, I came here after getting nowhere with Microsoft's support.

I was able to do the scanning once I got out of safe mode. Symantec revealed 63 infected files, none in memory. (Results attached) HouseCall revealed 65 viruses, most seem to be Worm Bagle X, and a few that said Trojan.... none of these were able to be cleared by HouseCall.

I ran hijack this once and fixed all the problems I saw as directed by your tutorial. I restarted the computer a couple times and ran it again. I think maybe a couple things on this log shouldn't be there... I don't know what all those programs that are running are for?
