Not sure exactly where to ask this, if here or in hardware.. figure I'd start here and see what happens.

Anyway.. I have a laptop which is only a year old. Inspiron 1525. I hardly have anything on it, still have over half the drive space for whatever. Only game I have on it is warcraft. *yes, I know it's a hog*

When I got it, it was fast, even with warcraft it played really nice. Far better than I expected it too. I'm always keeping up with defrags and clean up drives.. so on.. For some reason, recently.. it's been extremely slow all around. I don't why it's all the sudden. It takes forever to boot up.. warcraft is jumpy anymore.. I know with the game it's mostly the video card. Though, why would it be like that off game? Online it's hard to do some things, when I type things like this post here, the words are all jumpy and such.

I've been looking at the booster programs that is provided on this site, though.... I don't really know what I'm looking for. If it's for processor, cpu.. overclocking.. or what?!?!?! I don't know what has made the laptop so upset, so not sure what I'm looking for to help it out.

It does seem to take forever to start up and to shut down. It's like it isn't catching up with what I'm doing half the time. Gotta sit there for a min or two and let it catch up before I can actually click on anything. And no, I don't have anything in my startup folder either.

    Any advice is much appreicated.

Before accusing your own hardware of software look at your antivirus program.

    Which one is it?
Have you changed at all during your year with the laptop?

I ask because some AV misbehave near renewal time and cause severe slowing or even prevent boot.

    Thank you for the replies.

I will read and follow the guide that you provided DomLuc and see what comes up.

As for the anti virus.. i am looking for a new one. I was using Kaspersky *sp* but the time has expired and I have been unable to update it. I had bought the cd with my last computer when I got it repaired. For some reason, I can't seem to find the website or anything that will let me get my subscription renewed. So I have been looking for a new one.

I don't like norton, avg or mcfee.. They all seem to just eat up my computer and make it 10x as slow. As of right now, I don't have one. I have SuperAntiSpyware but that's about it.

AV issues is likely your problem then. I see this regularly, had a Dell with exactly this last week. The McAfee that came with the Dell was it in that case.

Presumably you could unload and reload the Kaspersky?

Did you uninstall the McAfee fully before installing the Kaspersky? It can be a beast to get rid of. I think they have the removal tools here for both I will look see.
