Just curious. Starting to hear about it everywhere I go. I don't have an account yet.

Seems pretty good so far. Being a bit cautious yet but it's pretty quick, ther're bringing on new features and as yet only 1 item of spam. All in all I think I'll keep it.

I'm sure someone on here will have a spare invite BluesMan, if not I'll have a cast around:)

Like maybe Jamiko or someone just like that:D

I love it! No spam yet.

Does anyone know how to forward a message to everyone in your contacts list?

I like it, so far. But I'm not using it as my regular address, but my "mobile" address, which I'm not accessing much ATM.

It has been a very, very long time since invites have been given to me.

    Gmail going public soon?

Gah! I wonder if they stopped all the invites? I know I had 3 of them available last week but they are not there any more. Sorry BluesMan! I'll respond to your PM as well.

Oh wait, I found them. They just moved the link to invite people to a totally different spot and I completely missed it. Invite sent BluesMan.

Neo, PM me with your email address and I'll send you one too.

Alright I just got my account set up and so far it looks good. I have picked up two things I didn't like though. One, you can't send .exe, .zip, or any other file that may have an executable file in it. But this might change or it might not. Right now since its the beta I think its just for secuirity. Another downside was the fact that they didn't have support for Pop3 and redirection. It does say that it may come later in the future so just take that into account. Other than that it looks pretty good. When you log into your account it loads faster than any other webpage in the world, like when you are going from folder to folder. This may or may not change depending on how many people start to use it. But for now it is extremely fast. I am probably going to be using it for photos since you can't send the executable files but that is fine with me. There is also a place for spam so I will check over the next few weeks to see if that is good or not. It looks go though right away so I don't think I have to worry about that. A little while back people said that the reason u get so much space is because they install spyware into you computer. So far I have not detected anything installed onto my computer and I will be running spybot shortly and adaware to check that out. But I also have spyware blaster and it hasn't done anything.

I hope my review can help out with some questions you may or may not have.

Dunno about sending an .exe attachment NEO as its something I wouldnt do normally ... but .ZIP and a .exe inside the ZIP file sends ok as do RARs with .exe's send OK in Gmail for me.

as to your question on spyware being installed by Gmail

    Your review needs some work.

I just sent stinger.exe from and to my Gmail account.

I've never tried sending exe or zip files, but here is what the Gmail help site says:

As a security measure to prevent potential viruses, Gmail does not allow you to receive executable files (such as files ending in .exe) that could contain damaging executable code.

Gmail does not accept these types of files, even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. If someone tries to send this type of message to your Gmail account, the message will be bounced back to the sender.

Maybe they will change it once out of beta Jamiko .. but at present they do send... not tried all the different formats as stated above as I have no interest in doing so ... but I have sent a .exe in both ZIP and RAR formats and Adryn did state he sent a plain ol' .exe as attachment.... so it does work but for how long is the biggy question.

I actually like Gmail its logical order of emails and reply's is really useful to me plus the ability to highlight ( with star ) the important emails/replys ... havnt really had the time to play with all the functions... another usefull addition is the ability to search from inside the email page saves opening another page up and large-ish attachment size is helpful as I send picture's and their follow up edits via google now mainly because of the logical order of email, easy to keep track of where I'm upto!

Yeah as Halo said, this is not the case.

    Bug maybe?

Well, it is all under development, its probably changing all the time!

Well, if they did block exe files, just rename the file to jpg or something before sending it. Problem solved. The body of the message can have instructions on what to rename it back to if needed.

It is a beta test, so it should be reported as not working as described.

yeah i know some of the stuff in there is wrong but i was justing posting what gmail said. i mean, it was a beginner's review.

Thats not a beginner's review, that is repeating what you read about gmail.

A review would mean you have, well, reviewed the product.

alright then just don't read it.

I've had it for a few weeks now (thanks muskybob ;)). Since I use NetCaptor (a tabbed browser) I just keep one tab open to Gmail while I do my other browsing. It automatically refreshes, so I can keep current without having to f5 everytime I want to check my mail. Actually, as I just typed that sentence, I noticed that it refreshed. :D

I have only noticed ONE thing that I don't like. When I signed up for G-mail, I immediately re-signed up for a few mailing lists using my .gmail address. One of them is Bowler's Paradise (a site that sells bowling equipment), and they will occasionally send a newsletter with special product offerings only to people on the mailing list. The problem is that GMail interprets the subjects like "S-A-V-E on Infernos, Primal Instincts and More!" as spam, when the e-mail were actually authorized by me.
